WALCOTT, IOWA - Irish rocker Bono wants the nation's Teamsters to do more to help the fight against AIDS in Africa.

The lead singer of the band U2 met with three truckers today at the giant Iowa 80 truck stop in Walcott. It was a brief pit stop on a seven-day bus tour of seven Midwestern states.

Bono, along with actress Ashley Judd, are trying to stir support in the Midwest to curb the spread of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

Bono says truckers can play a key role in improving the distribution of AIDS vaccines in Africa.

He says American drivers can play a part in reducing AIDS among African truckers--half of whom have tested positive for HIV.

Davenport trucker Mike Adams agreed. He says it's important for America to change the perception that it doesn't care about other nations' problems.

The tour also stops today in Davenport and Dubuque.
