Mullen & Morissette Join Listmakers

LOS ANGELES, August 15, 2002 --The Shortlist Organization has named two additional artists to the roster of Listmakers to decide the second annual Shortlist Music Prize. U2?s Larry Mullen, Jr. and Alanis Morissette have been added to a panel that already includes Iggy Pop, Beck, Most Def, India.Arie, Paul Oakenfold, the Neptunes, Jill Scott, Baz Luhrman, Spike Jonze and members of Metallica, the Strokes, the Roots, Blur and Sonic Youth, to name just a few. Encouraging leaders of the creative community to share their cultural discoveries directly with music fans, the four-month Shortlist Music Project will culminate in an Award Concert at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles on October 29th. Shortlist Co-Founder Tom Sarig says, ?Enlisting Larry Mullen, Jr. of U2 and Alanis Morissette to be Listmakers reflects the growth of the Shortlist Music Project, and shows that our mission to expose and share left-of-center musical discoveries is gaining support and momentum among some pretty incredible artists.?

The Shortlist Music Project honors today's most creative and adventurous albums, focusing on emerging artists rather than established hitmakers.

"The Shortlist Music Prize is awarded to the most creative and accomplished album by an emerging artist," says Tom Sarig, cofounder of The Shortlist Organization with Greg Spotts. "It's simple," adds Spotts, "it's artists you know turning you on to other artists you may not know."

Each of the 2002 Listmakers will be nominating five albums in August to the "Long List," and then voting for their ten favorite nominees in early September. The top ten vote-getters from the Long List will become the Shortlist Finalists, who will be announced at a special press conference and panel discussion the week of September 16, 2002. Throughout the summer and fall, each Listmaker's nominations will be made available on the official website, www.shortlistofmusic.com, along with quotes, music samples, and exclusive videoclips from Shortlist events to be delivered using Microsoft Windows Media Audio and Video.

Last year?s inaugural event featured a unique private dinner for the Listmakers which occurred moments before the start of the awards concert. Listmakers including Beck, Macy Gray, Aimee Mann, Mos Def and Ahmir ??uestlove? Thompson of the Roots discussed the merits of all ten Shortlist Finalists before selecting Icelandic band Sigur Ros as the first winner of the Shortlist Music Prize, awarding the band a check for $10,000 and a $10,000 donation to a September 11th relief charity of their choice. Sigur Ros, Talib Kweli and fellow finalists Dandy Warhols and Nikka Costa performed half-hour sets at the concert.
