Art is a Bloom
Irish artist Dave Egan has completed a collection of U2-inspired paintings which are being exhibited in Dublin's Brown Thomas department store from August 23 to September 6.
The 33 canvases are named after such popular U2 songs as 'One', 'Sweetest Thing', 'The Ground Beneath Her Feet' and 'Mysterious Ways'. It's a major coup for Egan who's the first person U2 have allowed to use their lyrics in this way.
Originally from Dublin, he moved to Sydney 14 years ago and now has a studio there which includes Elton John amongst its regular visitors.
"When I was a student in Dublin, the sound of U2 was synonymous with the city's cultural life," he explains. "I saw them play to a home crowd and the memory of that concert remains one of the most inspirational moments in my life - as inspirational as the first time I saw Keith Haring work. While listening to U2's most recent collection of songs I began to formulate plans for a very personal retrospective linking my art to the enormous influence their music has had on me."
You can get a sneak preview of Music To My Eyes by logging on to www.eganart.com.au . Meanwhile, Sepultura are planning to include 'Bullet the Blue Sky' on an EP of covers that's due in the autumn.
