I think I read somewhere a while ago that Adam had a stalker at one stage; but I can't remember where.
Did this really happen or am I just imagining things? (It's happened before :drunk: )
If it did happen, what did the stalker do?
Has Adam ever spoken about it?

What reminded me was a Fox ZooTV special (on dvd) that I was watching had all these cuts from the concert to other little scenes, and one of them was a really freaky thing with a woman going into Adam's hotel room, and going through all his stuff, and then she finds him asleep on his bed, and she slowly goes and puts her hand on his arm...... It was quite disturbing really.

I remember that clip; I don't remember hearing anything about it being based in reality though...

Meghan, yes there was a stalker. From what I remember it was a Canadian male and he showed up at HQ and he was arrested. I think this was late 90's. I remember reading the article from atu2.com news archives last year.

Wow!!! It was a man stalking Adam?!!! Well than it is offical , Adam is so hot even men are stalking him!

Stalker Captured

World Entertainment News Network, April 01, 1996

A crazed Canadian fan stalking Irish rockers U2 has been sent home.

Irish police found the man lurking in the grounds of bass player Adam Clayton's luxury home outside Dublin -- even though security had been stepped up in recent weeks.

The man had been bombarding the group with letters and phone calls from Toronto, before he flew over to Ireland in a desperate attempt to meet them.

The 30-year-old stalker was later escorted to Dublin Airport and put on a plane home.

Canadian Embassy spokesperson Phillip Pennington says, "In the end he left the country of his own accord."

Accused U2 Stalker in Custody

The Toronto Sun, October 29, 1997

Sam Pazzano

A Toronto man accused of stalking U2 bassist Adam Clayton for three years appeared in court for a bail hearing yesterday.

Robert John Hector, 34, was remanded in custody until today when the hearing resumes before Justice of the Peace Jim Oates.

Hector was arrested Monday before the band's concert with criminal harassment of the Irish rock band superstar.

The justice of the peace imposed a publication ban on the evidence presented at Hector's bail hearing. Police said a man telephoned Clayton up to 200 times a day and, in March 1996, flew to Dublin where he was arrested outside Clayton's residence.

 Poor Adam. That must have been scary.

I found this:

"Yeah, I've had some very direct experience of stalking," he (Bono) admits. "I don't want to get into names or places because it can be an ongoing problem, but let's say I and the office of U2 have had experience of armed and dangerous stalkers at the time when this piece (Million Dollar Hotel) was written."

"There was an amusing incident in a hotel in Los Angeles around about that time, where the stalker had committed a date for revenge on not receiving his royalties. And so they had a load of FBI people around the place where I was staying, it was one of these bungalows you get in the grounds of the hotel. So anyway, midnight had passed and I wasn't dead -- at least as far as I could make out -- and I went to sleep and I guess it was in the back of my mind. And I woke up to this 'Bang!' y'know, a very loud crack, and I was up firing telephones and lashing out in the dark with Cuban heels and anything I could find in the direction of the bang. But it was just my suitcase had fallen off the edge of the bed (laughs). Anyway, he went away eventually and I think he bothered somebody else."

There was also a more recent case involving Bono. I remember that Scotland Yard was involved, and they were investigating a series of extremely threatening letters that were coming, I believe, from London. Does anyone remember this?

Found it:

U2 frontman receives death threats -24/6/03

U2 frontman Bono has received death threats as a result of his campaigning against AIDS and to relieve Third World debt -particularly in Africa.

The theats against the rock star who is well known for his Christian faith and work with the Jubilee 2000 campaign are being taken very seriously by his personal security team and the British authorities.

Added security measures have been introduced following a special investigation by Britain's Royal Mail service, aided by Scotland Yard.

According to the Sunday Mirror, two dozen extremely abusive letters-containing foul language, racial slurs and death threats-were sent to the music superstar over a period of the past two years.

Reportedly, all of the letters originated in Southeast London and were addressed to Bono, care of his management company in Dublin, Ireland.

Scotland Yard is so concerned about the content of the letters, it is conducting extensive DNA research and other forensic testing to trace the mail to the person who wrote the vicious attacks on Bono's attempts to fight AIDS and relieve Third World debt.

One letter contained this threat: ''You have been warned and you and your do-gooder friends had better watch out. F--- the foreigners and help your own people.''

The initial tip to the letters' contents came from a London post office sorting room where an employee was intrigued by strange lettering on an envelope addressed to Bono, written in a very unusual, neon-bright shade of green ink.

Thank You, Google!

Here's another article, which gives more details about the above threat, as well as information about a fatwa issued against Bono:

I will kill you, Bono

Sunday Mirror, June 22, 2003

Paul Davis

Rock star Bono's security has been stepped up following a string of death threats sparked by his campaign to help the world's poor.

The U2 frontman and father-of-four has been told that the Royal Mail special investigations branch had asked Scotland Yard's Special Branch to investigate dozens of sick letters.

Now his security team is set to lay on extra protection for Bono and his family.

So far, 24 letters -- full of vile abuse, foul language, racial insults and death threats -- have been intercepted. All were sent from London.

One threatened: "You have been warned and you and your do-gooder friends had better watch out. F*** the foreigners and help your own people."

Another makes filthy racist slurs against the people Bono, 43, has been helping in his crusade to help the world's poor. An extract from the first letter reads: "If this carries on you will end up in a box."

The letters were addressed to his management company at Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin.

Now Scotland Yard will carry out forensic tests on the letters and envelopes to trace either the fingerprints or DNA of the author.

The original tip came from a Post Office sorting room in London where a worker's suspicion was raised by the lurid green ink.

A Royal Mail investigating officer explained: "In time Bono may have to be interviewed because of the nature of the letters.

"An application was made to intercept the mail which gives the post office the right to open it. The contents were very racist and referred to Bono helping relieve Third World debt.

"These letters have been passing through London sorting offices for at least two years.

"There are references to harm or even kill him so if we find the culprit he will definitely face charges of making threats to kill.

"First we will be looking at saliva used to seal the envelopes as this will contain DNA We will also fingerprint everything and move on from there. The letters were spotted because of the unusual green ink."

Police at Scotland Yard are taking the threats to Bono's life very seriously.

They now have to investigate all threats against stars following the murder of Jill Dando by crazed fan Barry Bulsara.

The Royal Mail officer added: "No doubt many letters got through to their target -- whether or not Bono opened them is another thing.

"Sending this kind of material through the post is an offence punishable by a prison spell. So we don't need a victim (in this case Bono) to go ahead with a prosecution -- although it would help."

The police have collected 24 of the letters which were posted over the past two years -- all traceable to an area in southeast London. The main thrust of the letters is that Bono should stay out of politics and stop getting involved in matters "which have nothing to do with him."

A police source said: "Most of the letters were posted in Borough High Street in southeast London. It's not a highly populated area and it's assumed that the culprit either works in the area or is one of the few people that lives there. We are hoping to have tracked the culprit down within the next month.

"Whoever is doing this isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the box, but we never ignore threats like these, particularly in light of what happened to Jill Dando."

Bono's crusades have also been the cause for concern for FBI agents who believe the star could be a target for Muslim extremists. Islamic fundamentalists backed by Osama bin Laden issued a terrifying fatwa against him and fellow campaigner Aaron Cohen last year. Mr. Cohen, president of the Jubilee Foundation, received more than 200 poison pen emails and phone calls last year following his exposure -- with the support of Bono -- of the vile slave trade in Sudan. Bono's security staff were informed of the threats, which echoed those issued to Satanic Verses author Salman Rushdie in the early '90s.

But in spite of the threat on his life, Bono did not make any changes to his campaigning or decide to give up.

A pal said: "Bono will never give up his crusades.

"He is a key player in the campaign to end Third World debt, and will not be silenced by death threats."

It's dangerous being a rock star.

I wonder what was driving the guy who was stalking Clayton --love or hate?

Without being weird, I've always thought Bono in particular has been pretty, well not lucky exactly, but someone in his position is so open to anything like that, and I'm just amazed sometimes that he's come so far basically unscathed. There are so many strange people out there and HE puts himself so out there, always has done, that I thank goodness he hasn't been hurt. *touches wood*

Anyone remember the so cute story about Bono thinking he was maybe going to be shot (I think during Pride) and Adam stood in front of him to take any bullet? I love that!

that story is horrible. i can't imagine would want to kill him for that. just proves that bastards do exist in this world!

why would anyone want to harm someone who has never done anything bad, only good? i hope and pray the boys stay safe and have long healthy lives...!

Stay safe tonight...

SURE you didn't dress as a man, A, SURE.

I am surprised it is guys stalking them and not girls?

That's because we're more discrete. :D

Anyway, I honestly never heard of this stalking business until now. And those death threats? How awful! Poor B!!

Yes, the death threats are horrible but not surprising to me. As for the male fans, I notice when I look at dvd's and when I went to the concert in Philly, the men are actually more emotional it seems than the women! When the band sang SBS the guys went CRAZY! They all grabbed the backs of chairs and it looked like they were trying to pull them off the floor. I was terrified :giggle:

I remember that. I´ve always thought that shows how deep their relationship is and how much they care for each other.
