I have not been this LIVID in quite some time.

The Box Office in Hartford ALLOWED and CONDONED scalpers to set up lawn chairs right out in front - AND BUY many many many dozens of tickets - REPEATEDLY!

The MO+HE# #UCK#RS were DISGUSTING - they "hired" bums off the streets and lined them up at EVERY window, in case one, or all opened -

and security did NOTHING.

THEN when they finally did open and started selling tickets - these fucking slimy scum of society aggressively cut in line and pushed the bums out of the way -

and security did NOTHING.

AND THEY SOLD THEM TICKETS.

I was second in line - only to a fu#$%ng disgusting bum - and when they opened I LITERALLY watched that one bum turn into *5* scalpers - and I could not do a damn thing about it if I did not want to chance a knife in the gut.

And they came back again and again and again and again.

There had to be 20 or 25 of them -

and they were SO OBVIOUSLY scalpers.

And each time they came back they pushed people around.

And the box office DID NOTHING but sell them more tickets.

It made me think that somebody in the box office got money under the table somehow.

DISGRACEFUL.

I waited for GA's from 7:30AM until U2 hit the stage and got NOTHING.

So, as disgusted as I was I checked the box office one last time - and when they said, "sorry, we're sold out" I let them fu#$%ng have it -

In a nutshell I told them that I was there the ENTIRE day, and I told them how it was DISGUSTING how they REPEATEDLY sold tickets to scalpers over and over and over and over again - ALL DAY LONG.

My girlfriend was very upset and I was comforting her.

A woman at the box office got my attention and gestured for me to come over.

She slid an envelope under the counter - and asked me something about if I still needed tickets...she told me to take the envelope and just walk away.

She handed me 2 tickets to section 104 *FOR FREE!* These were $162 tickets - probably the best tickets in the house if you did not get GA's and get really close. You can only imagine how I felt after going through everything I had gone through! And we had only missed "City of Blinding Lights"!

The irony is that I only had enough money for GA tickets and they never did come available the whole entire day - I would have had to go with nosebleeds or rear of stage - but I passed them up and held out hopes for GA's - if it weren't for sympathy / charity / "keep your mouth shut" tickets I would have been screwed!

I don't know if this woman felt really bad for us - or if she just wanted me to keep my mouth shut about things?

It's a good thing I got those tickets - I was contemplating going out into the streets and dealing with the very scum that I wished cancer on - had I not gotten tickets!

I thought the whole reason that the band withheld some tickets until the day of the show is to cut down on scalpers -

and now the fu#$%ng scalpers have caught on and waited in line for tickets - day of show, along with real fans.

I'm not one to keep my mouth shut when I feel that I am being wronged - and I probably almost got into numerous fights -

but it SHOULD NOT have been my problem to deal with.

NO, the box office cannot discriminate, and maybe they are forced, by law, to sell tickets to anyone. But these people were SO FU@#$NG OBVIOUSLY SCALPERS - EHEM, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. There MUST be something they can do to NOT have to sell tickets to people that are SO OBVIOUSLY not fans.

AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, I even heard that the scum were out there selling counterfeit tickets for a FU@#$NG fortune! HAVE THEY NO FU@#$NG CONSCIENCE? FU@#$NG GARBAGE PEOPLE - I REALLY DO WISH DEATH ON HORRIBLE SCUMMY PEOPLE.

How long must we sing this song?

Scalpers bought off the security guards at Madison Square Garden. You might as well have a baseball bat when you wait in the drop line. Off to Cleveland I go.

By the way you can hire this bum to wait for you in line. He is in D.C. somewhere near Howard University Northwest.

I don't think it's a good idea to call the homeless "pigs." But still, those damn scalpers. I can't believe they don't do anything about this.

You should send an e-mail or letter to Marty Brooks. He is in charge of all operations at the Civic Center.

I truly feel for you.

That situation is indeed disgusting.

At least you got to get into the show, but that woman did the absolute wrong thing by ginving you those tickets. She basically paid you off for something that should not be happening in the first place.

I blame ticketmaster fully for this and to you I say I am sorry - that sounds like it was absolutely horrible.

I'm not quite sure I understand here. You turned tickets down, and then complain when other people bought them? That doesn't make any sense.

Same thing happened at both Los Angeles shows. I imagine it happens everywhere. I have no issue if the scalpers wait, buy their tickets and move on, but to keep cutting in line sucks.

I think DAY OF SHOW tickets should have ropes, that you buy, then imediately need to be escorted into the show. No scalpers (unless they sell their spot in the line to someone), and no issues.

This happened in Boston in May. The scalpers had the homeless wait in line and it was chaotic to say the least. People were scared.

Yes, the exact same thing happened for Boston show 3 in May. I arrived at 11AM and there were only 20 people in line in front of me and only half that looked like U2 fans. After waiting hours (there had been no ticket releases), at around 6pm all of a sudden dozens of scalpers with homeless people in tow who had not been in line all day show up and clog the front of the line. Only minutes later, security came out to "move the line" which in combination with the scalper onslaught made me go from 20 back to around 300 people back. It was disgusting.

Bottom line - the scalpers knew the drop was coming. How did they know? Because they have connections.

U2 has the best intention with the ticket releases. They always have. Unfortunately, I think they need to take the extra step of instituting a policy for ticket releases the day of a show. People should be told in advance that if tickets are released, they will be allowed to purchase such tickets but must be escorted directly into the building upon purchase. This is the only way to stop the scalpers.

No, he's complaining about scalpers who use homeless people to wait in line, then jump ahead in big groups when the windows open, then buy a bunch of tickets up so they can resell them at a much higher price (which is illegal).

The seats he first turned down (maybe over the computer, I don't know) were not what he wanted/far away so he wanted to try to see if any GA became available that day.

It's not that "other people" are buying the tickets. Scalpers, who have no intention of seeing the show and are going to resell the tickets at a huge markup, are buying up all the tickets - after he and other people waited in line for hours.

Scalpers suck, there's no doubt about that.

The only two shows where I had to wait for a ticketdrop this year were the Atlanta shows. The scalpers were there, of course, but the arena staff did a decent job of keeping things somewhat orderly, and there were even a number of real police (not security) who kept an eye on all the scalpers. The scalpers who were in line got their tickets, but I got mine, so it worked for me.

I just don't see the problem in the original post. All he wanted were GA's. No GA's were released. Why blame the scalpers?

Thats really crappy that happened to you Twochordcool, I would have been royally pissed if i had this what you desrcibed happen to me if i did try and wait in line for tickets for Omaha's show next thursday. I know i probably would have been thrown in jail but i would have punched a few scalpers just for their injustices to fellow U2 fans.

I guess at that point it's about scalper behavior in general I guess .

The same thing happened in Miami 2 - I don't think they ever released GAs, but the scalpers were intimidating people and it was not a pleasant atmosphere to say the least. I would have been mad to if I had seen scalpers buying up tickets over and over again right in front of me to the point where there were no more tickets at all left, even though there were no GA's to begin with.

It's not like "I'm pissed I didn't get GAs", it's "I'm pissed that this is so blatanly going on and no one is doing anything about this illegal stuff".

But that's just my opinion, not speaking for twochord cool :reject:.

I call shenanigans. For the venue box office management to condone this behavior implicates them. Someone is getting a kickback or payoff to look the other way. If this happens to you, call a local news crew or radio station and try to generate some publicity or get some coverage of the chaos. If you have a camera phone, record the scene and offer it to the media. That would be a real black eye, generate some bad press for the venue operator. After the fact, there isn't much you can do besides write letters, try to cause them some public embarassment. Someone just might lose their job and you just might get some measure of justice/satisfaction.

Such hate from a guy who ended up with free tickets in section 104?

And when you say they were "obviously" scalpers, you mean they were obviously black, don't you?

I'm not dissagreeing with your premise, but geez. Calm down. You seem like a very angry man!

lepermessiah.. no need to play the race card here...

i think he was just frustrated ...understandable. it happens everywhere..its how the world works...i know it sucks.. but thats it.

Don't blame lepermessiah for that! Twochordcool is the one who said it.

Where in Twochordcool's post is he playing the race card?

The same shit happened at MSG...And the SO OBVIOUS scalpers were not black. No offense, but that statement was tacky.

They came in all shapes and ages! (13yr old lil' $hit!)

Am I misinterpreting the statement above? If I am, then what is the meaning of "EHEM, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN"?

Sounds like a misinterpretation to me.

When I read his statement I didn't see a particular shade of person, I just saw scum of the earth, shifty eyed nogoodniks...

You know, I saw the homeless lined up at the Garden back on May 28th. I had no idea why they were there (I actually thought they were in... a soup line, or something:| ). This explains it.

It's horrible the way the scalpers use these people like animals.:tsk: It makes me sick. I'm sorry that happened to you, the scalper problem truly needs to be addressed seriously. It's getting out of control. 6 people who were in front of me in Hartford were turned away because their tickets did not scan. Aweful...

I was more referring to the ruthless scum that would rather rob a fan than go out and get a real job.

WRONG.

My frustration was with 2 separate things -

1) That I could not get tickets that I wanted and almost left with nothing.

But then a whole entirely separate thing -

regardless of if I got tickets or not, the box office really has no business at all selling many many dozens of tickets to people who are SO OBVIOUSLY scalpers.

This is a GREAT IDEA.

I was wondering how they could control it, and short of being "discriminating" I could not think of how they could do it.

There are 2 problems with your suggestions though -

1) Tickets are sold throughout the day and they could not or would not force you inside at noon.

and 2) It would probably require a lot more security.
