I was wondering if anyone has ever been to the MGM Grand Arena. I am trying to imagine how big is this place???

I just went to U2 @ Glendale, AZ and that place was huge, and thats what I heard about Anaheim as well, I guess these are Ice Hockey Arena's.

The lady at the MGM told me that it can seat between 2000 - 16,000 people, so is it like a proper arena, or is it a lot smaller???

I cant see them putting a pro arena inside a casino building!

It is one of several large arenas in casino's in vegas. 16,000 is a good number. Probably more with a GA floor.

MGM arena is huge, I thought the guy told me it seats 20k. I think it's bigger than the Pond. I've been to many concerts there.

Published capacity is 17157. (thanks Google) GA vs. seats on the floor might bump that to 18K.

It actually seems small inside compared to most modern arenas, because there are no mid-level skyboxes to push the upper levels to the moon (see Staples Center, United Center.) And very few seats behind the stage, though sometimes they put folding chairs along the railings behind the lower level on the sides.

Even upper level seats have a good view. Its a great place to watch a show, IMHO. The hard part is getting a ticket!

hate to admit it, but I was at that show, it was before U2. It was in the afternoon earlier than U2's elevation show at T&M, because it was for HBO so it was over at 6 pm, she did a great job of writhing on the floor and lip syncing. First we had seats behind the stage, which are ok everybody looking for seats, although you feel like you're pretty high up. Then we were given seats right down next to the stage on the floor up close to the Britney, and before her O'town.

You can get an idea of the inside from this website:
(and no, I'm not a Britney fan)

Thanks so much for the link! I remember this show, cause U2 were performing that same night at the Thomas & Mack center, which I went for! Then our cab driver told us that Spears is over at the MGM! I told the cab, how can u even put the two in one sentence!

OMG I cant wait... this is probably one of the smallest places they will be playing in! I got seats right behind the stage, but when I look at the picture, its not that far at all!

Awesome - so excited! I was disheartened to learn I had "nosebleeds" - but now I'm not so sad... Thanks so much for the link!

MGM is SMALL - it holds 16,000 or so, but there are no "nosebleeds" - every seat is a great seat! Honestly it is probably the best venue I have ever seen a concert in.

The problem at the MGM is the crowds - they suck! Crowds there tend to sit on their feet the entire night and not be into the show, whatever show it is. Very uppity, VIPish we're too good to stand up for this show sort of thing.

Still its worth going to see the show there if you can afford the tix because its a great venue.

I am dead center behind the stage... lower upper level! Hopefully it wont be that bad in this small venue!

I've been there many, many times, and one thing it has never seemed, ever, is small.

I guess from reading everyone's posts, it seems that this could be the smallest venue that U2 is playing.

I went last time to Vegas for the Thomas and Mack show, and that was smaller than America West Arena in Phoenix, since Thomas and Mack was a college venue with no VIP boxes, while America West is where the Phoenix Suns play.

I think the MGM is also the only non-NBA or non-NHL venue that they are playing, so that explains the removal of the VIP suites.

I don't suppose anyone has a reliable answer on which way the seat numbers run in the sections.
