...and you were playing only one gig, and this gig was in Vegas, and you were putting together your setlist, what is your ultimate setlist THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO PLAY - there is a big difference between that and what you want to hear U2 play. Now, mind you, this fictional scenario is only a one-night engagement, you're not on tour, so you don't have to save anything, you can go all out and play an extra-long set. Let's say no more than 40 songs. Take it away.

[Main Set #1]
The Ocean
Vertigo/SFB
Discotheque
Love And Peace Or Else
Dirty Day
Bullet The Blue Sky/Hands
Zoo Station
The Fly
Mysterious Ways
Until The End Of The World
New Year's Day
Numb
Please(full band)
Ultraviolet(Light My Way)
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
If God Will Send His Angels

[B-Stage Set]
Original Of The Species(like Vertigo tour, just keyboards/bass/light drums/vocals)
Running To Stand Still
Where The Streets Have No Name(segue between RTSS and Streets will last 15 minutes)
The First Time
Wake Up Dead Man

[20 minute break during which the crowd gets a light show]

[Main Set #2]
City Of Blinding Lights
Beautiful Day
Gloria
The Unforgettable Fire
Gone
Mofo
I Will Follow
Sunday Bloody Sundy
Pride(In The Name Of Love)
Bad/Ruby Tuesday/Sympathy For The Devil
Cry/The Electric Co.
"40"

[Finale]
One
Staring At The Sun
Stay(Faraway, So Close)(like ZooTV)
Lemon
With Or Without You
Yahweh(acoustic like Vertigo tour)
Neon Lights/Can't Help Falling In Love

I'd go ahead and assume I was playing to an audience of well-buzzed U2 collector geeks who had all done exceedingly well at the casinos that day, and were in an adventurous and approving mood.

In a city like Vegas, I'd have to start off with Mofo. :p

Anyway, first set would be songs which could be very light orientated to emulate the city.

Set 1:

Until The End of The World
Mysterious Ways
Zooropa

Vertigo
City of Blinding Lights

Set 2:

All Because of You
Crumbs From Your Table

Walk On

Encore:

One
Please/Wake Up Dead Man
Original of The Species
Yahweh

Two-hour version of "Lemon," with Brian Eno on rocking chair.

Yeh, these setlists are pretty much fantasy. I'd like to see anyone try to sing their heart out to 40 U2 songs and actually still have a voice after about 30-35; especially when the songs listed so far are abundant in the "screamer" category.

Never gonna happen.

1) Streets
2) New Years Day
3) The Fly
4) HMTMKMKM
5) Mofo
6)Discotheque
7)Elec. Co
8)Bad
9) WOWY (Could work, or might be terrible don't know refering to bad into wowy by the way)
10) RTSS
LEAVE FOR B STAGE...
11) Stay
12) WGRYWH
13) Yahweh
14) Acoustic SYCMIOYO
15) Acoustic SBS
BACK TO A STAGE
15) U F
16) AIWIY
17) Love is blindness

Encore 1
18)COBL
19) Beautiful Day
20) Walk On

Encore 2
21) Ultraviolet
22) ISHFWILF
23)Please
24) One

Really? Damn. I guess I shouldn't have put like $100 down in Vegas that this would be the third-leg show.

Hello, hello... the subject says "If you were in a U2 cover band." It IS a fantasy. It assumes all kinds of crazy things, like that you could play an instrument or sing, and that you have a band, and that people would come see you play, etc.

It's just a fun way to talk about the songs that we really like, that we might play OURSELVES if we actually could. That might be different from what we'd like to hear the band play, and it's MOST DEFINITELY different than what we think they WILL play.

Why don't you lighten up and join in the fun, or just go find a pre-school and schedule a presentation on the myth of Santa Claus.

Haha, I love it when people get so pissy over nothing.

All I was saying that singing 35-40 U2 songs in a row would be pretty impossible for 99.9 percent of singers out there because there are too many "screamer" type songs which are a killer on the vocal chords. There's a reason U2 have never played more than 25 songs or so in a concert.
Live in fantasy, that's fine. I am in a band and a singer so I try to look at things with a bit of reality and am saying that any singer that could sing 40 U2 songs in a row and still have a voice at the end is definitely a better singer than I or even a better singer than Bono is for that matter. If you don't like my opinion don't read it; it's nothing to get pissy about. :madspit:

There isn't meant to be reality in this. That's the point.

hey there just wondering....we do 35 U2 songs a night usually Friday and Saturday...well we take 20 minute breaks between each set, does that count?

:)

EDIT: I do tend to agree though that when you are doing a 100+ show tour, you need to pace yourself so 35 songs each show is probably not realistic...I get a few days between gigs to recouperate lol...
