Kanye – 'U2 And I Connected'

Kanye West says that he hit it off with U2 at the Grammys, which is why he will support them in concert.

Speaking as a guest on tonight's TRL, the man-of-the-moment proudly confirmed rumours that he will open up for the biggest band in the world later this year. "Yep, it's true," said Kanye in response to the question from a member of the studio audience. "I'm gonna be their opening act. I get to be the artist that's playing while you try and find your seats!"

"We connected at the Grammys," he said as explanation of the support slot. "They were moved by my speech and I was moved by their music."

Other talking points in tonight's TRL included Kanye's short freestyle about his favourite types of porn over the beat of Alex's Casio keyboard, Kanye trying to snog Max after his performance of 'Gold Digger', and Alex choosing to show the cast of Revovler his tiger pants and the growling noise that they make when you press the special area.

For more A-listers and growling underwear, tune-in to TRL every weekday at 6pm.

Do U2 really think their audience is going to be enthusiastic about Kanye West? In Nebraska? :eyebrow:

Once upon a time U2 used a very wide variety of support acts representing many styles and demographics. The energetic rock of Pearl Jam one night followed by the electronica/pop of the Stereo MC's the next, followed again by the political hip hop of Public Enemy. Once upon a time U2 fans did not only 'accept' this, but thought it was fucking fantastic and more proof positive that this was a great band and a great show. Now it appears everyone is only happy if its a generic pop/rock act? WTF? How far have U2 fans fallen? If you are seeing Kanye West and U2 on the same bill, you are fucking lucky.

I don't think U2 fans have fallen Earnie...but i agree U2 have always had a great selection and variety of support acts.

The guys like to boost new artists of any kind:up:

I'm sorry once again for showing any disrespect to a man that makes a huge blanket statement, but he certainly doesn't help his cause of trying to be a role modela s everyone defended him as when he does crap like this...

I agree that U2 has supported some great acts in the past, this is not oneof them. Diversity is all good, hell i'm seeing Keane at MSG...I just don't think i like him and again all these comments i post here are not meant to offend him or his fans.
He says enough and does enough to drive my points straight~

im impressed by Mr. West's comments. when an outspoken egomaniac says he's going to be the guy youre listening to when you're looking for your seats, and that hes inspired by U2s music, i take that as very respectful things to say.

It'll also be the first time U2 have had an opening act who essentially called the President of the US a racist on national TV.

He's gonna get booed like you can't believe in Nebraska.

One minor difference:

Pearl Jam, Stereo MC's, and Public Enemy have TALENT.

Public Enemy in their day were WAY more confrontational about race and politics than Kanye West. I can't imagine what Chuck D might have said in that situation.

That could be a good thing actually...it might wake U2 up to the truth about what their audience has become.

I can't stand this guy...

It makes me sick to my stomach that this guy is gonna open at at least one of the shows I will attend:madspit:
You can bet I'd rather freeze outside before listening to C(rap) this guy is gonna be doing...I dont see how Bono/U2 would think that fans that like Rock would also like C(rap)??:|
I am so bummed that we did not get a good opening act for Portland!

Ok, here's my two cents. For me, it's pointless in saying I think Kanye West sucks or whatever. I don't listen to his music, so I'm not going to make an ignorant decision. However, what I don't like about him is this "image" that he's trying to create for himself. In my opinion, his political views and motives are not to focus attention on those issues, but rather to focus the attention on himself. I highly think he uses those issues as a stepstool to boost his name and generate interest.

Now, I'm sure someone out there will same the same thing about U2, Rage, P.Enemy, and so forth. But, those bands were doing that sort of thing long before when it wasn't "fashionable". Again, it's just my opinion, but I don't think West's motives are genuine.

I understand why U2 always play the same setlist, when they try something new, fans are unhappy. You're going to have the kings of rock and the king of rap in the same concert and you're complaining
Hip hop is too modern for you ? :banghead:
Next time u2 will choose Coldplay, so you'll have u2 and their parody, happy ?

Does anyone know if he will be the opening act yet for Dallas of Oct 29 ? I need to know, so If he is I can either bitch about it too or else,if he is not, ccuse everyone else of being old farts.

No doubt Public Enemy were more confrontational. BUT, I never saw Chuck D on national TV call the President a racist. That's the difference.

And what's wrong with U2's audience? Who should be in those seats? What kind of people would make you happy? :|

You fools. Kanye is great, and certainly the best thing happening in hip-hop. I wish he was opening the Cleveland show that I'm seeing. With my luck it'll be some bullshit like Keane.:|

Fool here. I am thankful West didn't open in Toronto. I think I would have walked out and waited until his set was over!

I'm actually really worried about this  U2 fans are supposed to be the most supportive and interesting group of people... if they boo Kanye West at the concert it will really tarnish U2's good name, IMO.
