U2 single discography from the AMERICAN RADIO CHART

The American Radio Chart, or ARC, competes with Billboard in a big way...many in the music industry use it as a true barometer of a song's success because it is based on airplay only. Regardless of which chart you prefer, and I realize BB is more recognized, here is the Singles discography/chart history from the ARC. Sometimes is not listed as it is currently at #24 with a bullet. This chart tracks MAINSTREAM/POP radio.

So, here's the list of albums, which includes each one since WAR, and the # of Top 40 hits from each album:

AB has the record with 5 Top 40 hits. HTDAAB will have 4 after COBL, and should reach 6 unless U2 abandon the singles after COBL, which I doubt will happen. It should top AB in total singles in the Top 40. Regardless, every album released from 1983 to 2005 produced a Top 40 hit in the U.S. I wish the two soundtrack hits would have been on PoP.

All because of you didnt make the top 40. This chart also tracks sales and video play as well as airplay. I think its a fairer reflection on u2's popularity than the BB Hot 100. WOWY was the top hit on the ARC for the year 1987.

Also to note, All I Want Is You failed to chart when it was first released back in 1989. It was in 1994 when it reached # 29 as it was on the Reality Bites Soundtrack and so gained good airplay around that time.

Great performance by sometimes. Hopefully it can crack the top 20 this week. I cant understand such a vast difference in its performance on the ARC and its poor performance on the Hot 100. It doesnt make sense. Could anyone explain this?

If you are saying that this chart is determined from airplay, sales, AND video play, then I think the simple answer is video play. Sometimes has had a ton of video play along with respectable airplay. Same with Vertigo. The BB Hot 100 is sales + airplay on all formats.
