Kewl stats! Gotta give a shout out to all the countries that have kept this album in the Top 10, with top honors in taste going to Belgium! Those folks deserve a heartfelt

That being said, the tour delay was necessary but I'm glad it's starting up soon. The way things are working out, with HTDAAB holding up relatively well in R.O.W., this "late tour" along with so many potential singles might just help stretch out modest HTDAAB sales into mid 2006...they only need to average 100K/week worldwide through next year's Grammy awards to make it to 14M sold just 18 months after release. Certainly feasible IMO, although it may swing quite a bit above and below the average depending on tour location, Christmas season, single hits, awards, etc.

I wonder how U2 stacks up against all others in total albums sales since the "year of their demise...1997". Just my guess would be as follows:

POP - 7M
1980's B.oF. - 10M
ATYCLB - 12M
1990's B.of - 3M
HTDAAB - 9M

How many bands have 41M in albums sales since 1997? If you split up U2's career into 3 or 4 distinct phases, which most people do, they have been remarkably resilient over their entire career!!

Great list..
And we Belgiums sure know how to rock.. That's why they start the European leg in Brussels..

I am curious if they will be number one for another week..
Let's find out tomorrow.

Just some small corrections here, I think that total sales for The Best Of 1980-1990 is around 14 million copies (it's 7x platinum in Europe alone!). The Best Of 1990-2000 has also sold more than your guessed 3 million, probably 5 or 6 million or so.

C ya!

So who has outsold U2 since 1997?

Your usually spot on, Pop, so let's look at this again:

POP - 7M
1980's B.oF. - 14M
ATYCLB - 12M
1990's B.of - 5M
HTDAAB - 9M

This still seems like a conservative estimate, then, of how many Albums have been sold by U2 since 1997, as it includes no back catalog sales.

So does anyone know if there are any other artists who have sold more than 47M albums since 1997? Everyone likes to cut things off at the decade mark, and some don't want to count compilations, but an album sold is an album sold, and I'm purposely looking at 1997 since this was supposedly U2's career "low point", although that's a jaded U.S. view, as POP and POPMART did very well outside this country and as the tour went on in the U.S., the shows got to be very, very good. My best ever concert was POPMART at Clemson, hands down.

Anyone know the answer? Is U2 the hottest selling band in the last 8 years with 47M sold?

If was assume 25M for Joshua Tree, 12M for R&H, 15M for AB, and 7M for Zoo, then we're talking...

106 MILLION ALBUMS, at least, sold by U2 since 1987.  Can anyone top that?

Elvis Presley?

Beatles?

And they're such active artists ... I heard Elvis's new single on the radio just yesterday! Better buy that new album next week.

</sarcasm>

Any active artist sold more than U2 since 1997?

No, but I know BSB and Britney Spears have sold over 30,000,000 in the US alone in that time frame.......granted, they aren't active, but at least there's a few examples we could find......

I doubt if they sold more than U2 worldwide...

Well, I don't know about the rest of the world, but in the U.S., Eminem has sold about 24M. Add the rest of the world's totals, and he probably comes close.

I realize you said band in your post - I looked at all artists.

Also Shania Twain.

Her album Come On Over from 1998 or so has sold 20 million copies in the U.S. (is that insane or what?), her album Up! from 2001 or so has sold 11 million copies, and her Greatest Hits has done 3 million.

That's 34 million in the U.S. alone, and I'm not even including her album from 1995, which I think has done another 12 million or so.

There are also at least 2 million rednecks named Shania living in the southern US born since 1995.

It seems so, that this is not possible. I have asked for sales figures of this and last week. The answer i received was, that mediatraffic don't give any sales figures anymore, because they have to many requests in the last time. In the future we will only get the figures shows on the main site. :(

I estimate BOMB sold 100,000+ around the world this past week.
