If the USC offense and Texas defense had a baby, that baby would probably go pro in something other than sports.

Watched the second half of that scrimmage at a saloon/arcade bar. There's a King of Kong poster that doubles as a peephole to goofy '70s porn. A few folks lingered on that longer than the game.

So I don't follow college at all -- I go to UCF though and we can never decide if we suck or not.

How serious is a division like the new AAC in football? I know it looks promising for basketball.

Rumor: Texas firing Manny Diaz (DC) after two games.

Louisville, Houston and UCF are all undefeated but no big wins. There were some bad losses though - UConn, for one, had a terrible loss. So did USF.

But that conference loses some people after this year. Louisville goes to the ACC, Rutgers goes to the B1G. And then they'll bring in some good football programs like East Carolina and Tulsa and also add Tulane in 2014 (and later Navy in 2015). So it should be a decent non-power league in football.

UCF should have no problem competing in that league. I just can't believe USF is so bad. That program has some serious upside. Well, they both do.

It'd be fun to see another bowl game for UCF. They beat Georgia in the Liberty Bowl my freshman year, it was pretty cool.

Confirmed. Good riddance. Hopefully Mack moves to the office after the season as well.

The AAC gets an automatic bowl bid though, right? Without any marquee schools how is it any better than the MAC or the WAC?

USF made it to #2 sometime in '06, if memory serves.

Yes, but the BCS is in its final year. I'm not sure how the "final four" of the new playoff system will be selected, but I can't imagine the AAC will be a major player.

The AAC is essentially a spinoff of what was to be the extended Big East, before all of the Catholic schools freaked out or something, I can't remember.

As the remnants of the Big East, yes. No need to rejigger the automatic bids for the final year of the BCS. Louisville will likely deserve a bid this year anyway, and conveniently it's their last year in the conference.

Ohhh, I somehow missed that story.

And they retained their auto-bid?

EDIT: Oh, that makes sense, DB. But is the BCS really ending? I thought it was going to remain, just with the four team playoff. I guess that wouldn't make much sense.

Yep, it will officially be the "College Football Playoff" next year. My understanding is that a committee will select 12 teams for the final four plus four other New Years Day bowls. There are no automatic bids that I know of.
