Just saw Wilco play tonight in Columbus, Ohio. What an incredible show! The guys, especially Jeff Tweedy, really seem to be having a great time. In my opinion they are America's best studio and touring band.

wilco + andrew bird?!?!

Yeah, Andrew Bird opened the show. He was awesome as well.

1. Intro
2. Sovay
3. A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left
4. Why? (stopped and restarted)
5. Spare-Ohs
6. Plasticities (stopped and restarted)
7. Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning (?)

Wow, I'd die to see Andrew Bird playing the violin for Jesus Etc... amazing. I'm seeing him solo in November, though.

Glad to see Company in my Back in the setlist. They didn't play it on the European tour...

Nice setlist. I love the last three songs of the set being a Being There trio. They did the same set of songs the last time I saw them.

I concur with your opinion, too. They are far and away America's best band.

Had to be the highlight of the show. He took an already amazing song to new heights.

Also loved the last three songs of the second encore.

Picture of Jesus, etc with Andrew Bird. Also, gotta love Tweedy's Nudie suit!

I'm bummed I didn't get to see them on this tour. Great setlist.

If the members of Wilco beat me with primitive tools wrapped in barbed wire and shards of glass, I would not ask them to stop. I would, in fact, thank them for the priviledge. I might go so far as to request Poor Places and/or I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, but if they chose not to, I would understand. That's how good I think Wilco is.

Wow, UberBeaver. That's intense.

Heavy Metal Drummer may be one of my all time top 20 favorite songs. Maybe even top 15. I'm a sucker for a bouncy pop tune.

Crap. I was going to recreate this setlist on my ipod to listen to this afternoon, but I don't have AM, Being There, or the Mermaid Ave albums on this ipod.

Would anyone mind sending me:

1. Sunken Treasure
2. Forget Flowers
3. Airline to Heaven
4. Too Far Apart
5. Red-eyed & Blue
6. I Got You
7. Outtasite

I don't need the full albums (I have them at home), but I need those 7 songs. Any helpers?

Let me know,

I can. How do I send them to you?

I really adore Nels Cline. He seems like such a sweet, goofy, affable guy, and he's a mind-blowingly talented guitarist. He's brought so much to Wilco as a live act. I have to be in Chicago right before New Year's for a conference, so I'm really hoping they decide to do a New Year's Eve show this year.

Wilco has already announced that they're not planning to tour as extensively next year. That's not to say that Tweedy won't do a solo tour, and Glenn won't do some solo shows, and John won't tour with the Autumn Defense and Nels won't tour with any of his solo projects. I actually really like a lot of their side projects, so I don't think time off the road will be a bad thing for any of them. I also wouldn't be shocked to find out they're thinking of heading back to the studio soon.

I wish I could've seen them this fall. They were great this summer, and I love that they've been breaking out a lot of the older tunes off A.M. and Being There lately. I was considering going down to Pittsburgh Friday, but I'm moving this weekend, so it just can't work.

Wilco is one of the few bands I'll travel a long distance to see. They're terrific. I've loved them for awhile, but this summer they worked theirway up to sharing a spot with U2 as my favorite band.

Well its always hard to say with this sort of thing, but that may have been the best show I have ever seen. Now, Wilco will probably never be the spectacle that bands like U2 are, but they are simply phenomenal musicians who know how to put on a great show. They played 24 songs for 2 hours and I felt like they had only been playing for 30 minutes. I was riveting stuff.

Tweedy is a great front man and Nels is a joy to watch. Not only is he a tremendous guitarist, but he looks like an ADD child on cocaine. He's ALWAYS doing something.

Here's the set list:

Either Way
You Are My Face
IATTBYH
Pot Kettle Black (Yessss!!!!)
Handshake Drugs
Side with the Seeds
Shot in the Arm
Via Chicago
Impossible Germany
SBS
Too Far Apart (huh?)

In A Future Age (w/ A.B.)
Spiders (w/ A.B.)

Encore 1:

Encore 2:
Red Eyed & Blue>I Got U

What did Andrew Bird do during Spiders????

And you got Pot Kettle Black. I seriously envy you.

Andrew fiddled and whistled.

I am seriously jealous of his whistling skills.

 Will have to check if there's a recording...

I hear Jeff was wearing some crazy suits the last few nights. I always love his onstage banter, too.

Nels sort of reminds me of a Dr. Seuss character because he does things like this while he's playing:

Encore 2:
Red Eyed & Blue>I Got U
Casino Queen
Outta Site Outta Mind

Their encores have been great lately, but that's one of the best ones I've seen yet. They closed with Outtsa Site Outta Mind last time I saw them, and I loved it. Red Eyed and Blue is one of my favorites.

The second encore from Dalton's show (the one BIMM is salivating over) was the end of their ACL Fest set this year. It's great to hear those all played together mostly for the effect it has on the die hards in the audience. I love that massive group reaction of like-minded Wilco fanatics upon hearing those songs. It's a wonderful moment for the true fans to share together.

I love this band.

Sounds like an awesome show, Dalton. I could kick myself for not trying harder to get to the shows that came within a day's drive of me over the summer but my life was too crazy. But I still have the Tweedy itty bitty solo show in Marfa, Texas, last winter carrying me through these Wilco-less days.

One thing I love about live Wilco is that every member of the band is a joy to watch.

Tweedy got a huge cheer when he told the crowd that they were WAY cooler than the audience the previous night in Columbus (hated college rivals).

He said that "those people in columbus were a bunch of [high pitched whisper]pussies[/high pitched whisper].

Pretty damn funny - whether he meant it or not.

Via Chicago was a thing of majestic beauty. They started out soft and melodic and then all of a sudden they would break into this incredible dissonant jam and then just as suddenly, without any noticeable band cues they would come back in beat perfect to a mellow verse. It was breathtaking.
