I like Chase this Light, as I was pretty familiar with the demos before the album actually dropped. Invented still hasn't grown on me, but I will be honest and say I haven't given it much of a chance.

I am about to listen to Damage for the first time - looking forward to it.

I didn't want to watch that Taylor Swift cover, but I'm glad I did. They make that song rock. It's available for purchase--the band recently did an iTunes session with the TS cover, some old songs, and some new ones, of course.

Meanwhile, I can't get enough of this song in any way:

Jimmy Eat World - I Will Steal You Back (Jimmy Kimmel)

I like the cover quite a bit too.

The two shows in Melbourne were pretty fucking great.

Did you go to both? Gotta say I wasn't expecting it to be THAT good. My wife is the big JEW fan, I have what I'd have called a passing interest. I loved a few songs in my high school / uni days, but was never an obsessive fan. That is in my top 10 live shows easily. Probably top 5.

Yeah I went to both. I was a fan back in my teenage years, then became a prog dickhead and tried to ditch any bands I thought I should be embarrassed of, but I couldn't discard them and they worked their way back rather strongly since 2009. There was no way I was missing them this time - especially since I'd not been able to go to their last couple of Aussie tours for various reasons.

First show was the better one, though I say that in part because I prefer the older stuff to the most recent couple of albums and the first night had classics like "Blister". Glad I went to both though; across the two nights I got most of the songs in the epic Sydney setlist. The only stuff we didn't get were a couple of new songs that I barely know and "Get It Faster", which I would've loved but can't complain given the great selection we did get.

I'm gutted they didn't play "Claire" at all in Australia though, after doing it at a few US shows in October. That's one of my favourite Jimmy Eat World songs and I pretty much assumed they'd never play it again. When it was dug out for the US shows I was hoping it would be a chance to show up on at least one night in Melbourne.

Was at the Sydney show, so much love. I think it was after Work they said it was the final stop on the tour and they might go on for a while and they were not lying.

Was Chase This Light big back in the day? A few if its songs got some of the biggest reactions outside of Bleed American.

23 and Disintegration pretty much slayed all for me though, such epic set closers. And that final encore didn't mess around.

Yeah, I'd pretty much written off hearing anything of Static Prevails - Claire would have been great. I think I am where you are with these kind of bands - I tried to discard some that I tied to teenage angst, or bands that were mis-labelled as 'emo', but Jimmy just kept cmoing back. In prep for this show I listened to Damage and invented a lot, and have to say they both grew on me so much. 'Higher Devotion' off Invented is the song that flicked the switch.

Great to hear! Chase This Light was pretty big here - it rode the wave of Bleed American and Futures, and got a bit of radio play. It's still probably my favourite, mostly because it is just so fucking listenable and catchy. It walks the tightrope between quality and garbage because it is so poppy and hook-laden, but for mine it pulls it off all the better for it. It's still Jimmy Eat World, but it was a welcome departure from the previuos two. Dizzy, Chase This Light, Big Casino, Let it Happen, Always Be, Carry You, Firefight, Feeling Lucky, Here it Goes. All amazing.

I am still shocked by the lack of love for this band on this forum. Catchy as fuck, but with depth. Anyway - Integrity Blues is out October 21 and the first two tracks are epic.

I like the first single they released quite bit, not so high on the second. Regardless, I'll check out anything they put out, their first decade or so of music is still so great. I've been listening to some Futures tracks here and there lately, I have really good memories about that album.

They never came anywhere near the level of Clarity again. Bleed American had a good number of standout tracks, but didn't have the same gravity.

It's amazing that they regressed in sophistication instead of the other way around.

It's a fair point - though I think Invented gets a hard rap. Damage was poor (though it did grow on me a few years later). Get Right and Sure and Certain are better than anything on Damage

I think they are actively trying to distance themselves from writing over the top catchy music any more, for better or worse. Regardless, Clarity and Bleed American are awesome. So is Futures. Chase This Light has some really great songs on it too. Never put much time into Static Prevails, for whatever reason.
