That's flat-out idiotic.

How are we supposed to be objective about our own lists?

You don't have to, really. It's not as if everyone isn't receiving the exact same advantage. Hell, it wasn't until the ranking era that we began to discount our own lists in the voting process. I agree with IWB that it would be unfair to spread out 30 points among three lists so you should be able to vote for your own.

Unless you want to make a comprise and remove 1/4 of 30 points, which doesn't come out evenly. Spread out 23 points for your group? Nah, just give yourself 10 if you want to.

I'm just not comfortable with it.

What did we do last time?

I made a suggestion in the listening thread:

Why not have it be 24 points per thread? That's 24/4 = 6 points per list, or if you're involved in that thread, you only get 18 points to work with, and you can't vote for your list, so 18/3 = 6 points per list.

What was the purpose of having 30 points per round? I missed it.

By the by, Bonnie sent me her list!! I asked Diemen to add her to group 5.

With the 30 points thing, even if I wanted to abstain and divide them up equally, I cant.

40 points and then 30 for your own group seems much easier indeed. You can still strategically vote in your own group but it's better than just giving yourself points.

We're rolling with 24 per group, 8 max, 18 for your own group. If there are ties, we'll break them with a separate poll.

I don't see a problem with this (yet).

If problems arise, we'll fix them on the fly like we have with everything else.

And to be clear, you don't rate yourself in your own group.

I cannot wait to get started with these lists. So many of them look excellent. At first glance, LJT's, Cobbler's, namkcuR's and LemonMelon's look great. Though I'm excited to listen to all of them. I discover so much great music through Desert Island.

It's like Christmas. Maybe better, since I don't have to drive to dinner with my family.

Alright, gang. It's midnight over here and submissions are now closed. The results have also been tabulated. I could tell you the results now, but since there's no one on right now, I'm going to let this marinate for a while.

Do you guys want a slow unveiling of the results tomorrow or the whole thing at once? I'm good with whatever.
