That looks amazing mama cass.

I had about 2 pounds of chocolate kisses sitting around here after Christmas so I've mad a few batches of cookies to try and use them up. Made a variation of the regular peanut butter kiss cookie by adding a half cup of cocoa powder to the peanut butter dough and they were good! Still definitely a peanut butter cookie taste, but more chocolate flavor for the chocolate lovers. (The recipe is on Hershey.com)

And just because they're pretty. The gold was my favorite as a it had a orange flavor. I loooove the taste of chocolate and orange.

OMG you are sooooo lucky having avocados and oranges growing in your garden BC!! how lovely!! what a beautiful sight!! they just look SO much better than anything i've ever seen in a supermarket over here LOL!!

those cookies look really yummy! and those chocolates are soooo pretty too!!

cupcakes I made for a circus themed event. The snow cones were placed in actual snow cone cups and then put on holders on the tables. The "popcorn" is marshmallows with yellow edible glitter. It took me a full day to cut them and then put them on the cupcakes :crack:

I do feel lucky! And I've never tasted oranges anything close to as delicious as the ones from our tree.

oh god i've tried frogs legs twice - first time some friends made them for us when my kids were tiny, aged about 8/10, and the kids absolutely LOVED them! they wolfed them down!! i guess they looked like tiny chicken drumsticks (although cooked in cream and garlic) and they were perfect for their tiny fingers!

i was later asked to make some for family as they were desperate to try frogs legs when they came to visit - must say handling them did make me a little queasy - the little legs are cut off in pairs from the waist down - oh god they gave me the eebie jeebies LOL! but they did look much better once they were smothered in sauce, baked and sprinkled with parsley... again, all the kids seemed to love them, even though us adults were a little more reserved LOL

it's not something i go out of my way to eat... neither are snails LOL speaking of which, one time at a French wedding here, my son, who would've been about 9 at the time, came up to me at the buffet dinner and said "mmmmm these spinach pies are GOOD!!" - he didn't realise they were snail tarts sprinkled with tons of parsley! i explained though, and he popped another one in his mouth to see and said "bit chewy but still tastes like spinach" haha

I tried frog for the first time recently. It tastes like fish but it looks like chicken.

Intriguing, that's basically the opposite of crocodile

A friend wants to take me to this yumcha place she digs so I can try chicken legs, which she absolutely loves. I've seen them on Ethiopian menus and stuff but I can't say I'm heaps keen.

I can't imagine how chicken legs/feet can be good. They're just skin, bones, and scales. :slant:

True, but my mate swears by them. Apparently they're really soft and tasty. And I guess we could say something similar about any kind of meat - how can char grilled lamb be so nice when it's just muscles and veins and hormones?

I've eaten them in China and the Philippines. The claws will *usually* have been removed before serving. The Chinese variety are typically braised in marinade (in the Philippines they grill them), so the texture of the skin--and basically it's all skin you'll be eating--is nicely slippery-soft, and it carries the flavor of a good marinade well. You work off the skin with your mouth, then spit the bones out. The nicest part is the pad, but the whole thing tastes good IMO.

I work for a kosher caterer that runs her kitchen out of a synagogue. The preschool parents have been asking for us to to provide bday treats for each kid on their birthday since it's easier to order in house than to find a kosher bakery to go to. My boss finally agreed so today I did a tasting....

There's over 100 kids in the school so this will keep me busy throughout the year on top of my other work. Somedays I still can't believe I get paid to do this stuff :)

those look fab!! the chef at my kids' school is a trained pastry chef and whenever it's someone's birthday he makes them a choux pastry swan filled with creme patissiere to have as a special dessert with their school dinner - he's so nice and the kids love him/his food lol! it's not a very big school though, only just over 100 kids, so it's not too difficult i guess... it's a really nice thought though...

you are sooooo lucky! i would love to bake for a living (but i seriously don't think anyone would pay to eat my cakes LOL!!)

I think the kids at this school would turn their nose up to a pastry swan since they're only 2-5 years old! But I would LOVE to make those....I have a big dessert buffet next week so I might make some eclairs

our school is secondary school (age 11-15) so the kids love them! i love making eclairs! my daughter bought me a lovely cookbook just on eclairs - i tried the recipe for the chocolate ganache topping and it was sooooo good! i was hesitant at first as it had butter and honey in it, but it was seriously amazing! it's the only recipe i use now after years of just using a simple chocolate/cream ganache... i love profiteroles too lol!!!

Those look great, arw!

Speaking of getting paid to do food stuff, I just applied for an incredible job. There's a city in my area that's doing this fantastic tourism promotion. They're going to pay someone to spend a year in the city, go to restaurants every day, write about it on their website and interact with others on social media about their experiences. You get a fabulous salary, a daily stipend for food, a year long gym membership and living/moving costs can be negotiated. That sounds SO amazing!! I've applied, but so have hundreds of other people. The competition is pretty steep, so we'll see what happens. You have to have a food website and be present on social media, which I do/am, but I love the fact that you don't have to be hugely popular in order to be selected. So even though I'm small in my community, you never know! The only frustrating thing is that applications are being accepted for the entire month of March, so it will be a while before a decision is made. We'll see! :D

wow that does sound like a dream job! good luck with your application!

i made chocolate eclairs on Saturday night but didn't manage to get photos!

they turned out really well! i tried this new handy tip i only recently read about, and wedged the oven door open with a wooden spoon for the last 5 minutes of baking - apparently it helps get all the residual moisture out and stops them collapsing when you take them out of the oven - and it really really worked! they were so light and airy but firm it was unreal (as opposed to my usual soggy attempts LOL! i whisked up some mascarpone with some light pouring cream (we can't get good double cream here and the Chantilly cream just collapses), and it was the perfect consistency for the filling, and then topped them with a milk chocolate, honey, butter and cream ganache - am going to make some again this weekend and will try to get photos this time!

Soda=gerd. And it's too sweet.

I had to look up "gerd." So it gives you heartburn? I can see that, since colas are really acidic. I almost never drink it anymore because of the high fructose corn syrup, so if I do have some, it's usually Throwback Pepsi. That stuff is really sweet.

I wasnt too sure if it's the soda, but since I've never had any digestive issues (on the contrary, I eat a lot of things that would kill many a weaker stomach) and I only started drinking a significant amount of soda (which had mostly been colas) within the last six months, it was the only major difference I could really attribute to acidy reflux unpleasantness that has been gone since I decided to test this theory last week and avoid the stuff. But I'm going to go with yeah, it's fine once in a while but I can't drink soda every day. Hell, I didn't even like soda til I was about 20.
