It's no secret that with some clever editing you can make any group of voters look uninformed. But we didn't need clever editing to see that Palin was uninformed.

How Obama got elected? It's pretty easy. It's a combination of McCain shooting himself in the foot several times, McCain being the same party as Bush, and Obama being the canidate of sound judgement and better platform. Plus he ran a very clever campaign and got people to vote.

Pretty easy.

512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet.....

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

Oh and this wasn't a biased survey at all now was it? Give me a fucking break.

Do we really want to get into how uninformed voters are? Do we really want to talk about how many McCain voters still think Obama's a Muslim, or that Iraq had to do with 9/11? Because you don't have to look too far, I can show you a list just here in FYM of how uninformed some McCain voters are...

wow.

this is the first time i've ever heard of Republicans saying that Democrats were too stupid to know any better.

usually this is how Democrats have explained the fact that George W. Bush got elected (more or less) twice.

i suppose we could talk about how 25% of Texans think that Obama is a Muslim, but, meh, whatever.

There is ignorance on both sides but the reason why McCain lost is because of the financial crisis being blamed on Republicans and it resonated. Most Americans look to the president for blame and have little notion of what elected representatives do in congress. That's how Bill Clinton could take credit for Contract with America and how Bush takes credit for the subprime loan fiasco. The concept of narrow framing is appropriate in politics because humans need to reduce their decisions to less complex and reductive issues to help make their decision. Often only one or two issues help people to make up their minds.

Well, McCain's responses when the crisis unfolded weren't too promising, so that voters didn't really have too much reason in trusting him to handle the crisis appropriately. Of course Bush was a factor and that the crisis is complex enough that the party wins that is better at shifting blame, but it doesn't give McCain a pass on how he acted as if he was panicking in the first week of the crisis' comeback.

Well that and the fact that he looked like a bumbling idiot when the crisis hit, he just said the economy was sound a week before, he suspended his campaign to look like he was going to do something tough and then it ended up he didn't do much of anything, he admitted the economy was one of his weak points, it showed.

The reason McCain lost is because when he fell behind in the polls in August, he resorted to desperate moves, like Palin. Even without the financial crisis, Obama wins this election. The tide was turning back his way, and all the crisis did was increase the margin of victory.

Zogby claims media bias in Obama victory

YouTube - Must watch! How Obama Got Elected.com "Informed" Obama voters

Quote:
Zogby Statement on Ziegler poll

"We stand by the results our survey work on behalf of John Ziegler, as we stand by all of our work. We reject the notion that this was a push poll because it very simply wasn't. It was a legitimate effort to test the knowledge of voters who cast ballots for Barack Obama in the Nov. 4 election. Push polls are a malicious effort to sway public opinion one way or the other, while message and knowledge testing is quite another effort of public opinion research that is legitimate inquiry and has value in the public square. In this case, the respondents were given a full range of responses and were not pressured or influenced to respond in one way or another. This poll was not designed to hurt anyone, which is obvious as it was conducted after the election. The client is free to draw his own conclusions about the research, as are bloggers and other members of society. But Zogby International is a neutral party in this matter. We were hired to test public opinion on a particular subject and with no ax to grind, that's exactly what we did. We don't have to agree or disagree with the questions, we simply ask them and provide the client with a fair and accurate set of data reflecting public opinion." - John Zogby

Quote:
UTICA, New York -- Just 2% of voters who supported Barack Obama on Election Day obtained perfect or near-perfect scores on a post election test which gauged their knowledge of statements and scandals associated with the presidential tickets during the campaign, a new Zogby International telephone poll shows.

Zogby Statement on Ziegler poll

Only 54% of Obama voters were able to answer at least half or more of the questions correctly.

The 12-question, multiple-choice survey found questions regarding statements linked to Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his vice-presidential running-mate Sarah Palin were far more likely to be answered correctly by Obama voters than questions about statements associated with Obama and Vice-President–Elect Joe Biden. The telephone survey of 512 Obama voters nationwide was conducted Nov. 13-15, 2008, and carries a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points. The survey was commissioned by John Ziegler, author of The Death of Free Speech, producer of the recently released film "Blocking the Path to 9/11" and producer of the upcoming documentary film, Media Malpractice...How Obama Got Elected.
