I've been offered a very good deal on one of those, been wondering if anyone here has (or tested) one and can tell me a bit about it? Doesn't need to be U2-related only (although appreciated), but how it stands as a reverb pedal (compared to the Verbzilla, etc.) itself. I know it doesn't have shimmer, that's not what I'm looking for, I have a Verbzilla already. :)

Read some reviews and looked it up at youtube, seems to be a very solid piece.

I had one for awhile and sold it to fund other things (the Matchless I got that was a very good deal). It's a pretty good pedal. It adds quite a bit of hiss to the signal if you use it fairly wet, though. But most reverbs will do that. It wasn't the best reverb I've played and when I got the funds up to add a reverb pedal back into my signal after having to offload mine to pay for my newer amp, I went a different direction. Anyway, overall, it's an intermediate pedal in my opinion. Not great, not terrible.

EH Holier Grail is a great Reverb. Edge has one on the pedalboard that he uses in the studio. I saw it in the "Toilet Break" clip on U2.com

It's also on the pedalboard of the pic Edge tweeted in Nov 2009. (Most if not all of those pedals were on the board in the aforementioned video too)

No offense, E_O, but you're predictable. Ha ha ha. It seems like you only ever suggest stuff that Edge uses. Do you try stuff out that he doesn't use?

:D No offense taken. (And I am not THAT predictable... not entirely)

I do use things that Edge doesn't. And as I work as a tech for the guitarist from Joshua Tree (Los Angeles U2 Tribute), we use alternate gear in his setup.

Another nifty item is the new Line 6 M5. You can only use one effect at a time but if you are using a midi-controller, it could be used as a 2nd delay one minute, overdrive the next and reverb after that. So... I think that if you are using a controller, the M5 is a great way to save some space and get a lot out one 'box'. (We are using the M5 in Chas' rig for a variety of sounds).

And key point about the M5, it is one way to have what is essentially a DMpro, as it has the same sounds and is MIDI programmable.

Line 6 - M5

Another good reverb option? Boss RV-3 or Boss RV-5 Digital Delay/Reverb. You can use just the delay, just the reverb or a combination of both.

Awesome. That makes sense. I don't try to sound exactly like Edge, I just try to get a tone that is my own with good, clean, undegraded signal. It's just that it happens to sound a lot like Edge's at different points. I used to have a bunch of the pedals Edge uses (lots of Boss and EHX stuff) but I found it really marred the pure signal and could tell a huge difference when I plugged directly into the amp one time. It was like lifting the proverbial blanket (even though all the pedals were off). I'm guessing Edge uses a bunch of switching stuff that takes pedals out of the signal chain when not in use, and I do that now, but I hadn't started doing that until after I got rid of all my "problem pedals" and upgraded to boutique stuff. Anyway, long-winded. I think you and I may possibly be different sides of the same guitar coin. You're the exaction side and I'm the dumb luck side. Heh.

Thanks for both your answers. The Holier Grail has been on my shortlist for a while now anyway, but since I got a good offer on the Cathedral I thought I'd ask.

Off topic, since Edge's signal path came up: There's no way to compare his signal path to any mini-setup we have at home. The amount of custom made buffers he has in his rack (from CAE I believe) make sure he can sound as clean as guitar to amp at any given time.

I already hate it when I just hook up my DMM and Muff Pi (and nothing else!) in a mini-setup because both EHX pedals are like the worst tonesuckers ever created, especially the Muff (the pedals themselves rock though, no doubt).

In my experience, the best non-amp, non-tank reverb is the Strymon Bluesky Reverberator.

Best is to try the effects for yourself. What to they sound like when YOU play YOUR guitar through the effect. If price is an issue, I've listed some by price. But also remember, that sometimes (most times) it is better to save money and hold off a bit, to get what you really want instead of 'something for now'.

Happy shopping!

I've been looking at getting an M5. One question: what kind of power supply does it take? Could I power it with a Pedal Power 2 or something similar?
