Edge not using original explorer in the studio any more?

After seeing recent studio footage, I have noticed that Edge is no longer using the original 1976 Explorer that is from the early days of U2.

It was retired from live performances for 360, but could it also be retired from studio use?

Look closely at the videos in the links below. His original 1976 Explorer has a fret dot marker on the first fret, the backups don't.

Look, no fret dot marker on the first fret-explain?

It could be that he doesn't bring one out outside of his studio in Dublin. I know SOI was recorded in Electric Lady Land and other locations, so....it could be that he didn't want to bring one out anymore.

Or the original might be tuned to standard and another in E flat (or vice versa). Various possibilities.

E_O's theory of tuning sounds pretty accurate. I think his original Explorer is tuned to E standard.
