Bono Undergoes Surgery

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I saw it on Yahoo news, and I expected to see it on @U2 first. He's said previously that he had a herniated disk and back problems, so it would make sense if the injury was some extenstion of that. Also, I REALLY hope that this doesn't negatively affect the tour schedule!!!!

Well not only was it emergency surgery, but it said it was to the neuro surgery ward... which suggests spinal related injury. Hopefully nothing to severe. I wonder what it could be. Sounds like an injury sustained to his back during conditioning training for the tour.

I hope he'll be well!! :(
And hope this won't affect any tour schedules, but the important thing is that Bono is in good health and will be back to normal very soon!
Thanks for the link!

Bono Has Back Surgery; Tour Opener Postponed

U2 has postponed the opening show of this summer's U2 360 Tour after Bono underwent emergency back surgery Friday in Munich. According to U2.com, Bono suffered a back injury while preparing for the tour. He'll spend "the next few days" in the Munich hospital before going home to recuperate.

U2's tour opener in Salt Lake City, originally scheduled for June 3rd, has been postponed indefinitely, and it seems there's a chance future tour dates could be in jeopardy, too. In an audio statement about the postponement, Paul McGuinness mentions "dates" in the plural. Here's the full text of his announcement:

"The band were really looking forward to getting back out on the road until the emergency surgery on Bono's back, which took place in Munich today. We were due to start rehearsals on Tuesday in Salt Lake City and get the show ready for the next leg. There were gonna be some changes and some new material. It's unfortunate that we're inconveniencing fans. We will make plans to reinstate these dates as soon as possible. Obviously, it's been very disruptive for our crew, as well; we have over 400 people converging on Salt Lake City, and some of them have been turned around and told to stay at home until we make our new plan. We hope to get things resolved as soon as possible. Keep watching U2.com and you'll get the information as soon as we can get it out to you. Signing off, this is Paul McGuinness."

This is the seconc consecutive tour that's seen shows postponed. U2 delayed several Vertigo Tour shows in the spring of 2006 due to a family health emergency that was later revealed ()in U2 by U2) to be an illness to Edge's daughter, Sian.

U2 fans with tickets to the Salt Lake City concert are being told to hold on to those tickets until further information about the postponement is announced.

Lets all hope that Bono makes a full and speedy recovery

I`m sure that Larry will be giving him all the support he needs - after all he has been through this too.

I wouldn`t be surprised though if the US leg is postponed until after the next european leg - that would give him nearly 3 months to recover and the band to get rehearsing.

I was and am very worried about Bono, I hope nothing has happened more serious ... Let's pray that he will be well soon people...

:sad::sad::sad::sad:

I hope Bono gets well soon
It must've been really bad since they postponed the SLC show and now local Salt Lake City media is reporting that the claw is being "dismantled".

U2.com reported that Salt Lake City is "postponed". Quite possible other dates will be postponed.

Bono had surgery. They will reassess things and then see where the other dates stand.

First date on US tour is cancelled

U2's immediate plans were thrown into doubt today, with the announcement this afternoon that Bono has undergone emergency back surgery for an injury sustained during tour preparation training.

The U2 singer was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit in a Munich hospital, and is under the care of neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Jorg Tonn and Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt. The expectation is that Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate.

The immediate impact of the news is that the opening date in the band's US tour – originally scheduled for Salt Lake City on June 3 – has been cancelled. U2 fans who have tickets for the Salt Lake City show are being encouraged to hold onto their tickets, until updated show information can be provided. Live Nation and the band hope to reschedule the date. For the moment the remainder of the band's tour dates remain in place.

No further information has been given regarding the circumstances which led to the surgery.

"The band were really looking forward to getting back out on the road until the emergency surgery on Bono's back, which took place in Munich today," the band's manager Paul McGuinness said in a statement. "We were due to start rehearsals on Tuesday in Salt Lake City and get the show ready for the next leg. There are going to be some changes and some new material.

No decision has been taken, Hot Press understands, regarding the band's brace of dates in Anaheim, which are scheduled for June 6th and 7th, though quite clearly the band would be in a race against time to be ready to kick off the tour those dates.
