I think he means "See the stone get in your eye somehow, like maybe someone threw it in there, or maybe there's a dust storm somewhere..."
Either way its painful, just like having a thorn twist in your side.

(these are all real)
1. stay:
just the band and the clatter
as A NINJA runs to ground
just the band and the clatter
as A NINJA hits the ground
2. Mysterious Ways
living underground, eating from a CAT
3. Wake Up Dead Man
Can't we rewind and JUST WATCH PORN
4. North & South of The River
Can we stop playing these ALTAR 'TUDES
(lord knows what I thought that meant)
5. City Of Blinding Lights
rather than:
Time, won't leave me as I am
Time, won't take the boy out of this man:
Tonight... One Lean Me Howie Sand
Tonight...One Jingle Bird An Honest Tan
(that was as close as i could get until i forced myself to read the lyrics, which was about a year after I got the cd)
6. A Man And A Woman
Brown Eyed Girl Across The Street
On Newspaper Rhine
and i still don't know what he says on LOVE AND PEACE right after
Baby don't fight, we can talk this thing through.
it sounds like "With Meanie and You" (perhaps a Beatles reference) or maybe a more cockney "With me knee and you" (he's gonna knee her in the stomach... not really the best way to end a tiff, if you ask me.)

I thought that for years too! Yes, it's a word, but it's spelled flak. It's anti-aircraft fire, so it conjured up images of war in my mind. The 'silken sky' could be parachutes.
True colours fly in blue and black
Through silken sky and burning flak
Colours clash, collide in bloodshot eyes
Between you and me, I think it's a slight improvement on the 'proper' lyric.
Edit: According to U2.com (which is far from infallible, of course) the proper lyric is:
Blue silken sky and burning flag

Something like that?
Except "skies are fall" seems a bit misplaced. Why would he make a reference to autumn in this song?
"Skies are fallen" would make more sense in this context, but I don't hear "en".
Kimberly said:Lol... Hey everyone! I think I've only posted a couple of times so you all won't know me.
This wee topic has been amusing and I've also got a good few lyrics wrong....
Here's one....
In "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".... the line...
"I have kissed honey lips...felt the healing in her finger tips"
I thought it was.... "I have kissed Annie Lennox... felt the healing in her finger tips"
Lol!
Me too. And we're not the only ones.TheQuiet1 said:
I've always heard it as "I have kissed hardened lips".
Don't be sure about that. Some (including me) actually always heard it as "turn it up, eh, captain".Total U2 Nut said:^ It is
