These are the ones that I skip on my iPod:
Wild Honey
New York
When I Look At The world
Elevation
One step closer
crumbs from your table
a man and a woman
vertigo
miracle drug
love and peace or else
I love every single one of those songs, with the exception of "One Step Closer", which is still inoffensive (just a bit dull).
I don't think there are 10 songs that I dislike from the 00s (or any decade). But my lowest would be:
--
'Stateless' : it's not offensively bad or anything, but a bit dull, and Bono's horny breathing I find a little strange.
--
'Window In The Skies' : I feel bad choosing this because it has a great melody, so that's something, but the lyrics are pretty awful and very noticeable, since his voice is all over it. I do like the chorus, lyrically though -- just the verses are awful. "Did everything but murder you and I" may be the worst line Bono has yet written. Not sure if U2-does-boy-band is a good concept.
--
'I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight' : by far the biggest sell-out/ball of cheese U2 has yet written. Absolutely awful.
--
'Stand Up Comedy' : not awful, but close.
--
'Get On Your Boots' : something about this song just rubs me the wrong way. There's something ungainly about it, but I can't put my foot on what it is. The fact that they spend more money and energy selling it than Microsoft did the PC, and then it sank like a stone, probably doesn't help my perception of it.
--
'Winter' : good move by the band to drop it. There's a lot of potential there (esp. the vocal melody), but the lyrics as of this recording are terrible and it's one of the weaker vocals I've yet heard from Bono.
Hmm, that's 6.
(I loathe the lyrics and vocal delivery of 'Breathe', which effectively ruined the song for me, but the melody and arrangement are so strong -- the choruses are cool too -- that I couldn't put it on this list.)
