Numb is an experimental disaster

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I could listen to anything off of Zooropa for the rest of my life and still be genuinely happy. That said, I think Numb is a masterpiece because of its sonic subtlety and lyrical overload.

See this is what happens to people who reject Numb.

I love Numb- clever lyrics, an insistent beat and Bono's falsetto  As for U2s worst song, take your pick from HTDAAB quite frankly!

Yep. Not a great song, but ultimately better than Numb IMO

Not according to Bono. He has said that Red Light is generally accepted as not their finest moment.

I understand that you don't like "Numb". That's perfectly fine. No one has to love everything the band puts out.

But the 'need' to bash the song? That seems a bit much, in this humble person's view.

Don't wanna sound negative or anything, but I really feel the need to start a thread bashing the worst ever U2 song recorded (AKA 'Numb')

It amazes me that anybody actually likes Numb.
I'm not even joking, I think Numb is the worst song they've ever done. Worse than ANYTHING they've ever put out there. Worse than ANYTHING they've ever recorded. I cannot think of another U2 song that I think is worse than Numb. Grace kinda comes close. Miami kinda comes close. Some really rare and rough b-sides come close. But Numb for me is the worst U2 song ever to grace the planet, and I don't understand how anybody could listen to it, nevermind enjoy it! Hell, Numb is one of the worst songs I have heard by anybody, let alone U2! And I am a huge U2 fan!

I think it's tragic that it actually made a best of too. If I had never heard U2 before, went out and brought the best of 90-00, chose a track at random which was 'Numb' and listened to it, then I would be immediately put off! I'd listen to more tracks afterwards, only to find out they're much much better, and then I'd wonder why the pile of crap that is Numb is even included on the CD. IMO it shouldn't have even been on an album, nevermind a best of! Hell, it should never have been recorded! Urgh, the fact that gorgeous songs such as WGRYWH didn't make the best of and 'Numb' did...

I know U2 were trying to be experimental. But sometimes it just doesn't work. Numb is an experimental disaster.

Sorry for the negativity. Just wanted to get that out my system!

:applaud:

worst song on their worst album

For me, the worst U2 experimental disaster is "Elvis Presley And America". I don't even count it as a real song...

Ahhh, all of your "artistic vision" nonsense just went out the window...

EPAA:drool:

Probably one of the best true experiments they've done. Numb can't even be considered an "experiment" in the shadow of this song.

For me, "Elvis Presley And America" is nothing more than a down-speeded "A Sort Of Homecoming" instrumental with some mumbles and bonoglese. I can do that too with any music-edition program.

It is certainly one of U2's worst studio moments. If you don't agree, it's okay, I don't care about your opinion.

I personally really like "Numb", but admit to not listening to it that much. It's easily -- with "Lemon" -- one of Zooropa's 2 best tracks and much better than most of the following albums.

This is probably the most embarrassing for me.

I love numb. For someone who almost never listens to rap I think Numb was a perfect opening single. Bono's falsetto sounded awesome on the radio for the first time. They were messing with the mainstream and made fun of TV addiction. I also love the drums in the background. It felt so loose and awesome. Now if they were singing about the ghetto that would be extremely lame. :|
