I also watched the first one all the way through for the first time, so that was a big factor in it, too.

Live Free or Die Hard could be either really fun and action-packed and great, or just a nostalgic attempt to be as good as the other Die Hards. There's a 50/50 shot of either one.

I don't see going to see that any different than seeing Transformers.

Both are going to be mindless action flicks based off of the nostalgia of the '80s generation.

One has Bruce Willis, one's going to be directed by Michael Bay.

It's completely different. The Die Hard series (#1 and 3 anyway) has set a precedent of being quality films. They're a popular culture icon.

Live Free or Die Hard is effectively aiming to destroy the reputation of the franchise.

Transformers is a movie based on toys from the 80's and seems to have managed to make a decently entertaining flick from it.

Oh yeah, and Die Hard 4 is rated PG-13. End of discussion.

What are the other ones? The only other one I can think of is Jurassic Park 4, and JP3 already destroyed that franchise, so what harm could a fourth do...

I don't disagree about Michael Bay (although comparing him to Boll is like comparing the smell of shit to the smell of rotting flesh+shit), but I'm fairly confident Transformers will come out being the more enjoyable and well-executed film than Die Hard 4, given each films respective goals.

It's a dangerously subjective issue though, so it would probably have ot be determined by maybe an Interference poll, RT tomatometer, and maybe metacritic. You up for it? Could be fun.

The movie to win 2 or more of those three "judges" shall be the winner.

But for this to be remotely interesting, we need some real stakes. Any ideas? How about an embarassing avatar change for the loser?
