Here is what I don't want to happen:

U2 make ATYCLB part 2, like Radiohead did with Kid A and Amenisiac.

The one good thing about the Radiohead album, it wasn't exactly the most catchy mainstream bunch of albums, so you can get away with it.

I really don't want to see U2 making the same album again, they never have, and I just hope they never will. They've been in the public eye a lot in the past year and a half, I think it would be poo if they decided to make another album just like their last, to stay the "biggest band" in the world.

I am hoping that Edge lets loose, that the songs aren't so well crafted. There is nothing wrong with a well crafted song....but I love U2 songs that have a kind of un-settled feeling to them.

I'm going to be happy no matter what with what U2 is going to bring us in the next year, but I can always hope for certain things. I love ATYCLB, it's their best work yet, but I would like to see them completely blow away the music world with an album that isn't afraid to take risks.

Oh, and btw, I'm doing fine. It appears like I'll finally get into the job that I want, I just have to wait, but it looks very promising. The love life is going smooth as well, but then, it is BEAL, and I do have a rep as being a great lover.

I read this forum all the time at work, but I dont want to get fired for posting. So that is why you all have been deprived of my wisdom over the past 5 months. I'm around for a couple of hours....that should give you all a quick BEAL fix.

love you all

Hi BEAL!!!

What a nice surprise! I'm glad you're doing well and everything but I miss seeing you around.

I have to agree with you about the next U2 album. I also hope that they take some risks and come out with something that really blows us away. I bet they will too.

I hope Santa gets you a computer for Christmas this year. Take care.

yes, yes you would.

but I've been calling you lame for years, so does it matter?

Who knows?

I think (aka i don't have a clue, it's just a wild guess) it will be tougher in sound as ATYCLB was. Maybe darker in lyrics due to world events and events in Bono's life.

they're gonna shake it

To expect : album will be good , but after ATYCLB , it will be destroyed and flamed by critics ( unbreakable rule for them ) , i hope they will make some real hard stuff , experimental sounds ,

Hey BEAL, nice to hear from you again! And I'd like to now point out that your thoughts on their next album are almost completely identical to mine. I could have wrote that! Except without the Radiohead reference... and I don't think ATYCLB is their best work of all. But other than that I agree with you utterly and completely. I'm a little worried they'll go soft on us and put out ATYCLB part 2, but I know they probably won't ever do that.

Having said that, i would be totally ok with another album sounding like ATYCLB or AB.

Are we gonna be waiting 5 years again. Every time its 5 years, except for the one after Joshua Tree, which was quicker, Rattle and Hum. Wow 2080 posts. That is having a lot to say. o, just saw the one that is 5408 posts.

If Edge says it will be more of a guitar album then I believe him more than I would believe Bono's statements on albums. The Edge has to get his way. Look at Beautiful Day. The Edge got his way there.

U2 make ATYCLB part 2,

Lately, I'm wondering about the quality of U2 FANS around here...

You'd think, by now, we would ALL understand, how important it is, to the band, not to repeat themselves.

As far back as UF, when Bono said "We never wanted to make War part 2" ...

sheesh!

I'll tell you a story about Johnny McGory.
Shall I being it? Well, that's all that's in it

Who the fuck cares as long as there is a drum solo. WE WANT I THREW A BRICK THROUGH A WINDOW PART 2!!!!!!

Rumors (from reliable sources) are that there's more "classic" U2 songs as well as some more "experimental" songs. I have NOT heard it, so I can't comment directly - I can only relay these rumors (and sorry, I cannot give up my sources).

From these rumors, it appears that it won't be "ATYCLB #2." Then again, when did U2 ever truly repeat themselves? I wouldn't worry, BEAL. Now, get back to work, you grunt.

My BIGGEST fear: That U2 will 'change' again just for the sake of saying they changed and playing like they are innovative and all that crap! I LOVE the way they are now, and I hope they continue on the same path but with a few more harder guitar songs for Edge! I'd love some hard rocking fast driving songs! The most important thing is that THEY do what is honestly on THEIR minds and in their hearts and not try to be something they really aren't just to make a statement. Remember the comment from a few months ago when Edge said he came up with the riff for BD and Bono said no, that sounds too much like U2. To which Edge replied, we ARE U2! There is nothing wrong with doing what you do best and sounding like yourself when that means sounding like U2, because the true U2 are great. I hope the guys now have enough ego and confidence to realize that.

I predict the new album will be an extension, but not a copy, of ATYCLB. It's the same way that R&H was an extension on the American-flavoured rock of Joshua Tree, and how Zooropa was a build on the European-based electronic-rock of Achtung Baby.

Maybe this album will have the title of Bikini.

"You gotta love living, baby, 'cause dyin's a pain in the ass."-- Frank Sinatra

Adam: Look guys, I got a Springfield spoon for my spoon collection.
Edge: Oh boy, here we go...
Bono: Wow, how many is that now Adam?
Adam: Nine. If I didn't have my spoons, I'd go insane.
Bono: Can I see it?
*adam gives bono the spoon, bono throws it away*
Adam: My spoon!

Interesting to see what Bono said about October back in the day.
Bono:
So a lot of people will listen to it and say 'Hey, I want I Will Follow Part II' and we're not about to give them I Will Follow Part II, just as we're not about to give anything part II.

From the beginning they have been about the business of change, keeping it fresh, and not rehashing old ground. I think they can do it again. And I hope they have the courage to do so.

they gave us god part 2...I'm still waiting for part 1.

( yes it is sad that I think I'm funny)

can't believe no one has posted this comment by bono about what they are thinking about the next album. It is at U2log and I think from the Spin article.

>But can you, maybe, hear the sound of four men sharpening their axes, preparing for a bigger challenge? To leave behind all that you really thought you couldn't. For ATYCLB can indeed, it seems, do a little wrong. Bono: 'The album does lack a bit of some of the things that I think our band does [well], some of the anarchic, slightly abstract things; it might be a little too tightly constructed.' Adamant that U2's PR is carefully conceived and impeccably polished, this contributor can't help feeling this modest snippet belies a turning point. Post Elevation, ALTYCB quietly becomes the past, to make way for something new.>

I'm Hoping a little harder, raw sound with the same good song structures as ATYCLB.

polka? anyone for polka?

------------------
Bono: There is a bit of my guitar playing, but honestly it's sad.
Larry: It is. But Bono looks great with it.

Admit it folks, a U2 polka album would be the most stunning and unexpected turn in rock and roll history. It would make Dylan going electric seem mundane. And can you imagine a U2 Polka video?
