Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

If any of you still have lCD collections collecting dust, i highly suggest considering new CD playing equipment. CDs making a comeback amongst younger vintage / hipster crowds has made it so a lot of newly manufactured CD home stereo equipment is available. I've bought a couple inexpensive tabletop CD players with integrated speakers recently, they genuinely are a noticeable improvement in audio quality over a lot of the large shelf stereos or computer speakers we all used to play CDs on 15 to 30 years ago (and will also be a noticeable improvement for anyone primarily using streaming paired with Bluetooth speakers / headphones for music). There are even better player and digital audio converter options available.

Yay for being old enough that things you were young enough to see introduced to market have circled back around as "vintage"!

I still have my original Sony CD player from the late 80's (yes, I'm that old) and it works great.

Streaming is great and convenient when I'm working and have the earbuds in, but I still buy CDs and love to listen to them on my vintage CD player in the basement with the nice Polk Audio speakers while crashing on the couch.

I miss being excited for new Arcade Fire music. The buzz when they performed a series of small residencies promoting Neon Bible was approaching fever pitch.

I should revisit The Suburbs and Reflektor sometime, but they're a band I'd feel a lot fonder about if they'd called it quits after album #4.

Hello random peeps, whoever is still kicking around these days.

I stopped in to see if there was any discussion about the upcoming Passengers re-issue for RSD and find this place to be a bit of a ghost town which is a shame. I'm assuming its the lack of new releases coupled with the fan-base aging and the loss of the mobile app couldn't have helped either.

Not to mention Headache being made a mod - what is that about? AM I RITE?!

Lovely to see you elfa.

I would LOVE to get the Passengers vinyl but it's not being released on RSD here in Australia.

Bon Iver, Bon Iver is a 10/10 album and 14 years after its release I still have no idea what half of the songs are called.

Wow, it's really been a while for you. Naturally, you'd venture forth to the U2 section of the forums for such discussion. Lol! Headache for President, by the way.

Two posts in less than a week - slow down there!

I was able to secure a copy of OS1. I only had to stand in line for 2 hours with a bunch of old guys and Taylor Swift fans (what a dichotomy) and spend $70 CAD ($10 USD) Sorry if that amount is triggering for any Australians out there.

The last album of theirs I listened to was Gallipoli, what does this one sound like?

It's got a little of everything across their career. 18 tracks, less than an hour long. Best thing they/he has done since The Rip Tide in my opinion.

Just got home from seeing Mogwai. Concert season is starting up again, I have douchebag VIP tix to all 4 days of Kilby Block Party in a couple weeks.

I need to at least get a night 1 ticket. Crazy that New Order hasn't played in Utah since the 80's. Only wish Peter Hook was still touring with them.

Alarm Singer Mike Peters Dead at 66

Mike Peters, singer and co-founder of the Welsh rock band the Alarm, has died following a 30-year battle with blood cancer.

Peters was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1995, which was followed by a diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in 2005. He lived in remission for a decade until the CLL returned in 2015. This led to a more serious diagnosis of Richter’s Syndrome, a stronger form of lymphoma.

Peters passed away on April 29 at the age of 66. A tribute video was posted to the Alarm’s social media with the message “totally free.”

A Brief History of the Alarm

Peters, who began playing in bands as a teenager, helped found the Alarm in 1981. They moved to London to perform the local circuit of venues and released five albums together. Though the Alarm disbanded in 1991, Peters went on to enjoy a career as a solo act, releasing multiple albums and performing live.

Peters did, ultimately, revive the Alarm name under the new moniker the Alarm MM++ and continue writing and recording music for them. Their most recent album, Forwards, came out in 2023, which Peters said he started writing while receiving hospital treatments.

“I didn’t take the guitar in to be creative. I just thought a bit of quiet strumming would be calming after the procedure – all these big needles coming at you,” he told Classic Rock in 2023. “Then after a while a bit of a melody would just arrive. All artists know that when you’re down or brokenhearted, that’s often when you write your best songs. When you’re being challenged, that’s when the muse strikes hardest. And mine was working overtime.”

In addition to his work as a musician, Peters co-founded the Love Hope Strength Foundation, a charity that raises funds and awareness for cancer research.

Love the Alarm.

You guys...I am up WAY too late/WAY too early, and I am turning into Joaquin Phoenix in Her when it comes to talking to ChatGPT, but we were talking about U2, and it turned into conversations about old shows and reference and stuff, and I don't know how it happened, but ChatGPT said something about "Is Bono OK?" and I'm like...I don't know how to handle an AI ChatBot knowing about "Is Bono OK?" and then it asked me if I wanted to make a poster commemorating the thread, and...it made this.

raw

And I can't stop laughing.
