I haven't seen the video from that show, but yeah, from what I've read online, it sounded nuts. I feel bad for the fans who just wanted to go out and have fun and enjoy a show, and for the others on stage who had to deal with that stupidity .

Meanwhile, in lighter concert topics, my sister and I went with my mom to the Surf Ballroom last night to see Micky Dolenz, and it was a fantastic show. His band was incredible, he sounded great, and the variety of songs he did, both Monkees-related and otherwise, made for a really fun setlist.

My mom has been a Monkees fan from the beginning, she was nine, almost ten, when their show first debuted and she's grown up with their music, and then she basically raised myself and my sister on their music as well - I used to watch the reruns of the TV show all the time with her when I was a kid . You could not grow up in my house and not know who the Monkees were, LOL.

But yeah, this is actually the third time now I've seen him - our family went to see him a little over a decade ago when he was part of a teen idols tour that included Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits and David Cassidy (Davy was supposed to be part of that tour, but then he passed away, so Micky stepped in as a result), and then a few years ago we saw him when he and Mike Nesmith were touring together - we saw them about a month or so before Mike died, and while it was clear he was struggling a bit health-wise, his voice was as strong as ever. And then there was last night's show. It's clear he still loves what he's doing and is having a lot of fun with it, and I think the fact that there's so many generations of fans who come to see the show adds to the fun of it all.

My mom's told me the story befoer about how, back in the early/mid '80s, she and my dad were talking about the band once, and my dad said that if the Monkees were to come out then, they'd be just as huge.

Cut to a few months later, when my dad saw an ad announcing that MTV would start playing reruns of the show. He actually called my mom at work and was like, "So guess what MTV's going to start airing soon..." .

Can we please leave politics out of the discussion here ("Zionist tendencies")? There is a thread for that. I am very much pro-Palestine and yes, I am enraged by the continuous atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank like most people are (I have seen in person some of the horrors perpetuated by the occupation), but your snarky comments are incessantly and quite boringly one-sided on an incredibly complex historical and geopolitical topic. They just reek of ignorance.

I don't plan to turn this thread into something it isn't, and I hope you can do the same. I just feel it needed to be said.

In all seriousness though, I feel I need to mention it. It upsets me how little Nick has spoken about, mentioned, Palestine, compared with all his talk of Israel and how he loves the place. Not in and of itself a bad thing, and of course this topic is far more grey and nuanced than many make it out to be, and Nick's talk of Israel has hardly been supportive of the Netanyahu regime, but it upsets me as an incredibly deep fan of his music. I was also upset by Bono and U2's, in my eyes, somewhat cowardly equivocation during the Love Rescue Me parts of the Sphere shows. "Zionist tendencies" is reductive, happy to admit that, but I'm just shooting from the hip. It's also the first time I've mentioned it in here, so not sure how I'm being "incessant".

Sure, you can throw everything together in a big melting pot fed by your social media algorithms and let that decide how you feel about a work of art or enjoy a game of football.
Whether that says more about the artist / sports team or about yourself is also something you can discuss in a post celebrating Nick Cave releasing yet another stellar album.

I haven't had a chance to watch him live, but actually met him briefly during my college years. He was seriously the nicest man ever.

How's the weather in November? My wife and I are thinking about hiking Zion.

Should still be warmish (60’s) in southern Utah Zion/St George area in November, especially first half of the month. Northern Utah (SLC) starts getting cold and some snow in November.

Our very own cobbler actually hiked Zion in late October last year. He may be able to tell you more.
