post malone, on the other hand, was so awful that he actually caused my cat to yowl in anguish until i changed the channel.

Jaxson Dart is very talented - but the guy's got a death wish. He needs to be able to balance being aggressive and using his athleticism with self preservation. He just takes WAY too many hits.

That being said... the first hit he took last night? He was in the process of sliding and got hit in the head. I have no idea how that wasn't ruled a penalty. The major hit he took on the sideline? If you want to argue that it was technically legal because he hadn't gone out of bounds yet? Fine. But he was moving out of bounds and got absolutely demolished by Christian Elliss who launched himself at Dart. I've certainly seen hits safer and cleaner than that flagged.

I thought both could have been flagged. If it was a QB who wasn't known for being aggressive and going for the extra yards? I think they would have been called. Dart's reputation as taking too many risky hits probably hurt him in both situations. If someone hit Mahomes like that - on either play? Not a chance a flag doesn't get thrown.

But the one that was just absurd was on the kick return. And it was Elliss again. I have no idea how that hit was ruled clean. If it is - it shouldn't be. You're going to get someone killed. Elliss led with his helmet and launched himself at Olszewski. In college that would have been a clear targeting flag. I mean... they broke the guy's helmet. You're going to get someone killed with hits like that.

None of this had any impact on the actual game. The Giants are brutal. I'm not sure how a defense that has as many talented players as the Giants do can be so brutally awful. But they are. And the special teams... ooof.

Pats are the best team I've seen so far this year. I don't think Denver's close. Eagles and Bears certainly aren't. Maybe the Rams. But I think this is New England's Super Bowl to lose.

I still have this weird feeling that Buffalo, KC, and/or Ravens are going suddenly flip the switch and blow the whole AFC up. But at the same time, you'd think that would have happened already. But it was Tom Brady himself that said that the real season doesn't start until December. We'll see.

The NFC is very confusing. The Bears being the #1 seed is funny, but I will give them credit, their O-Line is legit and for the first time in a long time, their offseason moves actually paid off. Rams, Seahawks, and Packers all seem like teams that could go either way. Rams haven't really impressed me but they kept winning, Seahawks actually look scary, and the Packers underperformed terribly but their running game is starting to finally work which should scare the rest of the league when you combine that with their defense.

Buffalo wouldn't shock me. And I'll never rule out Mahomes until they're dead and buried.

The Ravens just look too shitty for me to believe they have an honest chance at flipping the script on anyone.

In happier times, I'm on a 5 game win streak in my office fantasy league.

That was the most physical I've seen the Pats in a while, and it was good to see. Obviously don't want to see anyone hurt, and yes, the hit on Gunner was technically legal, but agree it should change. The officials called the hits correctly for the most part, although I also agree the first one should have been flagged. The one on the sideline? Sorry, he was clearly inbounds, and Dart himself said he was going for the first down, so what is the defense supposed to do? Dart should have realized he wasn't going to make it and gone out a yard earlier.

There was also a helmet to helmet penalty on Hawkins, and rightfully so on that one. But you'll take the physicality any day, as long as they can be disciplined about it.

That first half was very impressive. Still need to do better in the red zone though; if they don't improve on that, they won't go far in the playoffs against good teams.
