From our previously reliable sources it looks like the band are on track for a Fall 2026 release of the album, with a single released next summer to kick things off. We are told that work is nearing completion on the album, and that the band are pretty confident they are in the final stretch. By this time next year we should have a new album, have seen a number of promotional appearances to promote that album, and should have news of a new tour. We’re getting closer.

If someone had told me back in 2002 during the Best of 1990-2000 release that in the next 23 years we’d only have 4 new albums of original material and they’d all be worse than the 10 we already had, I’d have called them a damn dirty liar.

Edit: Instead of paring Dublin ‘93 down to an EP, why not embrace the limitations of the format for Best of 2004-2020?

Wow, it really has just been those four albums in that time.

Pretty lean pickings for a best-of during that period and I can only imagine how they'd pad out the second disc with some truly horrendous remixes.

My other thought is how the first two compilations truly feel like a "Best of" from those time periods (other than maybe the Hedges mixes), but a Best of 2000-2020 would be much more off-the-mark, as we all seem in agreeance about their shaky (at best) selection of singles post-Bomb.

Just picture it: Boots, Crazy Tonight, and GOOYOW, all in one illustrious package bound straight for the value bin at your local shop!

I dont seem them doing another compilation.. wasn't 18 Singles supposed to address some contractual obligation?

also, yay new album. 50 years! old farts

The next album will be their 6th since 2000. 7th if you could SOS.

Okay, what do we expect their lead single to be like, if it transpires it comes out in the summer? Another watered down Vertigo?

By the way, what was the honest reaction here to Get On Your Boots when it debuted in January 2009? I think my initial reaction still holds - I don't hate it, but it's the most confused tangled mess of a tune. To this day. I don't know whether it's trying to be generic rawk or experimental it's that banal.

A few years of Edge tinkering
“Eahmm, l don’t even call him the Edge anymore, actually—he’s the Tin Man—now, the Tin Man is an idea, but it’s also the Edge, eahmm…but let me tell you, because I think it’s fair to say: he’s all oiled up for this next album.”

I liked the energy. I loved the riff.
I hated the video. It was dreadful and I cringed. There was a shambolic Grammy performance but it recovered at The Brits. The audience reaction to both performances was underwhelming. It felt like they were confused or the scene had left them behind.

It’s been a few years since I last heard it but I still play the riff in my head.

I just rewatched those performances for the first time since they were performed in 2009. My opinion has never shifted on that song and what I thought then is as I think now. It just fails to ignite despite the efforts of all 4 of them.

It can't even fall back on the 'it comes alive on stage' that has done for so many of their songs and in fairness a lot of their post ATYCLB output. Watch the Brits performance - you can almost see the 4 of them desperately willing the song into flight with all their performative powers zoned in. That is a band that is working hard and it's great to see. But the song trails limply in their wake. That kite just won't fly.

It doesn't turn me off and leave me a bit sour like a Stand Up Conedy or American Soul. Not at all. It's got some good stuff in it, but good stuff that you feel were parts of other songs.
