LMAO. What restaurant is that? And how was it only seconds and not thirds or fourths?!

In all seriousness, wonderful to see Bono honored this way. It's easy to make fun as super fans, or roll our eyes at speeches or what have you. But when I really listen to Bono talk and the people he's worked with attest to his commitment and effectiveness, it's quite inspiring.

As much shit as he gets, mostly from both ends of that very deep horseshoe you mentioned, he's put his ass on the line for that criticism and has (correctly) calculated the good he helps accomplish is worth whatever stupid criticism he gets.

Well- deserved honor today, for truly one of the most genuine , caring people alive today. Man, is it sad, though. Seems like just yesterday, I was watching Bono walk toward Biden as he shouted him out in the crowd during COBL at Obama's first inauguration!

Now we're all so much older, facing 4 dark years and Biden, despite being an authentically good , classy person and highly effective President, is going to go down as a very tragic figure in American history. Tragic as in a different decision around Fall 2023 could have both prevented this and allowed for his legacy to grow over time.

Been listening to a lot of Bleachers lately and I would really love them to work with Jack. He’s a hit maker so he ticks that box for them, but he’s a bit of a genius of texture and he seems to elevate the work of everyone he works with. I think him and Edge would geek out over sounds and it might spark something really special.

Funding a genocide and doing absolutely nothing to stop it does not leave you as an "authentically good" person, but I suspect any discussion along those lines belongs in Free Your Mind.

Maybe it's best not to talk about Biden here.

Antonoff is brilliant, but I was hoping this record would be a bit more immediate rather than soundscapey. But I would take him over Tedder.

I won't post one of my long replies for here, it's for FYM.

But since you quoted my post.

This is objectively NOT a genocide. You can have whatever problem with Netanyahu or the proportionality of Israel's response that you want.

The fact remains. Genocide, trying to eliminate a whole race or ethnic group, etc, is not what's happening.

As for Biden, he's not superman, doesn't have a magic wand and has likely done more to prevent further bloodshed than any of us will ever know.

Come back to us in a year over in FYM and tell us how much better the Palestinians are doing under Trump.

I'll also accept an argument for how we got that much closer to a President AOC.

I've been thinking of this for a while. Have an album produced by a two -man team of whoever plus the Edge. Jack would be a great choice!

I say have Edge as a producer because I think it would make them less inclined to compromise their initial instincts and direction and/or overcook things. The last 3 albums, while I judge them way higher than most here (especially SOI), all suffered to some extent from this.

Keep it simple start to finish. Edge clearly is interested in this kind of thing, maybe now more than ever. Certainly more than he was when he produced Zooropa with Eno.

you seem to have missed the "keep it to FYM" part of my "keep it to FYM" post.

The Edge interview on the Sodajerker podcast was really good - I really wish they'd do more long form interviews on podcasts like this and on YouTube. Or even stuff for u2.com that they could put up on their social channels between albums or as part of retrospective looks-back at eras.

No one asked for your Zionist propaganda. You mentioned Biden and were singing his praises. The suggestion to keep this subject in FYM was something agreed on by a mod, not an invitation to post more bullshit.

Pictures of You
Good. Has way more life than Fast Cars and a much better chorus. Just call it Xanax and Wine though ya fuckwits. 7

Evidence of Life

Love this. It almost sounds like a Boy offcut; Bono's vocals are different and how's that jangly guitar from The Edge! Something a little bit different! 8

Luckiest Man in the World

How wonderful to have it. The lyric changes do annoy me and take me out of the song, but I wonder how I would have reacted if I'd never heard Mercy. As I said earlier, having this song 95% in tact is pretty special. 9

Treason

Fantastic. The Edge's solo rules and it's the best Bonorap since Wire. 8

I Don't Wanna See You Smile

This sounds untouched from the version we got many years ago? Fantastic song, very sweet, simple, not overworked. I love it, horrible title change though. 8

Country Mile

This has warmed on me quite a bit. I like the chorus quite a bit. 7

Happiness

I like the crunchy chorus, "I'm here for the atomic bomb." Still a mess, but warmed on me. 6

Are You Gonna Wait Forever?

I feel like this one has been touched up a bit, with re-recorded vocals? I prefer the original, but it's a terrific song. The guitar and the chorus refrain are outstanding. 8

Theme from 'The Batman'

Where is this from? It's nice. 6

All Because of You 2

This rocks hard. Prefer the original. 6

And while we're here... I listened to the original album too.
Vertigo
Still a banger. 7

Miracle Drug

Great Coldplay song. Pretty classic U2 song. Maybe not as much love for it as I once had. Lyrics are a little silly. 7

Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own

I love this song. 8

Love and Peace or Else

Some good aspects to it. Just doesn't quite hit in the way that it should. Maybe I'm scarred from those 20-minute interminable sections of the Vertigo shows where they'd play this and then turn Bullet into a boring dirge. 7

City of Blinding Lights

The song that started it all for me. Perfect. No notes. 10

All Because of You

This song whips. I think the chorus is a bit weak, and maybe the lyrics and Bono's performance for the whole song are too. Which is a shame, because listening to this I was like, goddamn, there's some amazing guitar here. 8

A Man and a Woman

Amazing song, everything about it is wonderful, from the bass to the pre-chorus to the vocals. Brilliant. 9

Crumbs From Your Table

I've always loved this song. Surprised it didn't take off a little more. Some lyrical and vocal delivery misses, but a good tune. 8

One Step Closer

Always loved this one too. 8

Original of the Species

Probably the one that's dropped the most in my estimation. Found this hard to listen to. 4

Yahweh

I think I prefer it stripped down a bit, the version that played over the U23D closing credits is great, but I think this song is really sweet and I love it. 8

Some final thoughts...
  • How good is Adam's work on this album.
  • I'd be quite happy to hear a bunch of the Reassembled songs live, honestly.
  • You could make a really, really, really good single album from the two.
  • Wish they'd given us Native Son, too.
  • Anything else missing? I looked up the era and there were covers of Neon Lights by Kraftwerk and Ave Maria too. And a bunch of remixes and other alt versions.
Now this is what I'm talking about, a post without overthinking every milisecond of every song, so much good stuff on the original and on Reassemble

Not that anyone was waiting with bated breath on this one, but Evidence of Life has grown on me. Still not loving the "My first keyboard from Toys R Us" sound, but not a bad song overall.

folks - any further mentions of Israel, Gaza or anything related will be deleted. doesn't matter which side you're on. doesn't matter if you're merely responding to something someone else said.

if you'd like to discuss it - hey - we have a place for that! it's called FYM.

here - i'll even provide a link to make it easier - https://www.u2interference.com/forums/free-your-mind.199/

you can even fight about it. go ahead. it's the actual place where it's allowed. just, ya know, not here.

so will U2 finally play Tel Aviv again next tour?!??!!11 :sexywink:

SORRY SORRY I know. I know. Not helpful.
