I thought you were going to go with 13
(There is a Law)I thought you were going to go with 13
My number one criticism of SOI is that two of my three favorite songs from the album ... weren't actually on the album. And they were all Danger Mouse.I like Crystal Ballroom so much that I think it have should been track 1 on the album and also first single. It's exactly what I expected and wanted from the Danger Mouse collab.
I'm similar, although I'd add that Little Things is my favourite song from the era and that I'm also very fond of Book of your Heart. Both of which are produced by Andy Barlow, of course.Crystal Ballroom, Invisible, The Troubles.
Toss in Ordinary Love and my top four songs from that era are all Danger Mouse tracks.
Taking up this challenge, I think they could have made a mighty single-disc, ten-track album with the music they produced in the c.2014-17 period.
Here's my go at a tracklisting:
1) Invisible
2) Ordinary Love
3) Every Breaking Wave (Radio Mix - i.e. piano)
4) The Crystal Ballroom
5) Book of Your Heart
6) The Troubles
7) Lights of Home (St Peter's String Version)
8) Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
9) The Little Things That Give You Away
10) 13 (There is a Light)
EDIT: a few observations while listening back to this:
a) I can't believe they thought Crystal Ballroom wasn't good enough to go on SOI - it's one of the most innovative things they've done since Pop.
b) Little Things and, to a lesser extent, The Troubles are among the best things U2 has ever done - and certainly better than most of their output in the twenty-first century.
c) The darker sounding songs really suit Bono's late career voice a lot better. More of this please.
I was strictly talking about SOI.I'm similar, although I'd add that Little Things is my favourite song from the era and that I'm also very fond of Book of your Heart. Both of which are produced by Andy Barlow, of course.
It's almost as if Rick Rubin was wrong and the *sound* of U2's records matters as much as the underlying song.
One of the few songs where the sheen of the production makes sense and works in its favor, also I’m a sucker for the opening harmony and wish it went longerUnpopular opinion, but I think California is a really good song.
I also think Edge's guitar playing is really fun on SOI, and then just completely disappears (for the most part) on SOE.
SOE is being born! ... Adam #SongsOfExperience
I really must be in the minority in liking Lucifer's Hands; such a fun guitar sound and rhythm. Solid catchy rock tune.
Acoustic sessions version with the horns also good, ya bastard.i think California should have been left on the cutting room floor of Katy Perry's last album.
SameFunny, I've always disliked the Bar-Bar-Barbara opening, but after that it's great.
“Early morning, April 4…” pt. 2U2 posted the WTSHNN from 2005 Chicago up on YouTube and I guess I never really watched that version.
Does Bono say "From the bridge at Selma... in Mississippi"?
The Edmund Pettus bridge is, famously, in Alabama.
I mean I know he's not here so that's fair. Just amazed I never heard that before.
Cool. There's a pattern here and in people's comments, isn't there? Only half your songs actually appeared on SOI or SOE in those formsNice, wanted to maintain 13 songs so went with this version - Songs Of Innocence & Experience:
01: Cedarwood Road
02: Invisible
03: Ordinary Love (Extraordinary Mix)
04: Red Flag Day
05: Every Breaking Wave (Radio Mix)
06: The Crystal Ballroom (12_ Mix)
07: Book Of Your Heart
08: The Troubles
09: Love Is All We Have Left
10: Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
11: The Little Things That Give You Away
12: Lights Of Home (St Peter's String Version)
13: 13 (There is a Light)
