Going into the 10th inning - Freddie Freeman was batting .645 with 4 homers over the last 2 years with the bases loaded, and Mookie Betts was a career 0 for 5 against Nestor.

So, obviously, big brains boone intentionally walked Betts.

seriously though - MLB should ban them for life if the yankees (apparently) won't even ban them for a game. like - what are we doing here, folks? we're just going to let this go?

if they weren't both premium season-ticket buyers they would have been banned for life before they even got out of their seats.

The Yankees had a pretty erratic season. This game was a microcosm of their entire season. If they're gonna get back to the World Series and win there should be plenty of changes. Aaron Judge is going to have the worst offseason of his career. All he'll think about is the error and the strikeouts. LA kicked their asses. They need to learn and grow from this. And so it begins: Will Soto sign with the Yankees?

Fundamentals like who covers first on a grounder are the type of shit that gets worked on in spring training and becomes 2nd nature and pure reaction to properly prepared players. Don't see how Boone survives that disaster of a WS performance.

Now that the Yankees have gotten a taste of the World Series again, Boone's firing could be a reality. But they've been playing it safe for years so I wouldn't be surprised to see him return. The question is who would replace him?

That 5th inning meltdown by the Yankees was Chicago Cubs-level. Seemingly small mistakes all adding up to catastrophe.

Ironically, Garitt Cole didn't get charged with a single earned run. His failure to cover first base on that one play wasn't counted as an error, but surely he has to be responsible for at least one of those runs.

Baseball rules are weird.

The runs are all unearned because without the errors, Betts would never have batted in the inning. If everything is clean, the Lux strikeout ends the inning. He theoretically could have given up 5 straight home runs to Betts through Kike Hernandez and all runs would still be unearned.

What if he had been charged with an error, though? It's his fault the inning is prolonged, ergo he should be charged with runs that are scored after it?

No. Again, in theory Betts (and actually Ohtani) should have not batted in the inning without the prior errors. Any runs after that point would be unearned no matter how they were scored.

Ok, so which team will Juan Soto sign with? I think it will be the Mets, but I wouldn't be surprised if he signed with the Yankees. The Yankees had all season to sell their organization to him. That was a huge advantage. The Mets owner is wealthy enough to land him. 60 mil a season?

I don't think Uncle Stevie will be out bid.

That's not to say he's definitely signing with the Mets. But I think they will put him in a situation where he'll have to turn down the most money to not sign with the Mets.
