Mini disc recording of shows?

Just a thought, I have a mini disc recorder and wondering if anyone has used this format for recording? Can you advise accessories that are needed to obtain a good audience quality recording? I have heard binaural mics are the best....but I have also heard that a scanner is necessary? Can anyone bring me up to speed for taping?
