Check computer with other speakers, to make sure your sound card works Which ever one doesn't work, if you can't fix it, try getting a new one. Both can be bought fairly cheaply...

If so, i'd suggest Uninstalling the Soundcard and rebooting then it should automatically reinstall it and be fixed. My aunt had this problem and I walked her through it on phone today.
