guitarless new years day?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

wow, bono triing to sing the guitar solo, that's priceless. And poor Edge, at the end the guitar works again:lol:

Wasn't that man at the begin of video in white clothes with flowers Jackie Chan ? :hmm:

Just imagine New Year's Day on the next tour without the Les Paul... I'm suddenly very scared.

Great video though!

OMG! That's great! Where do people get such obscure freaking videos? God bless Youtube!

They seem to have done a great job despite the guitar tune out disaster!

:lmao: Oh lord, that's the funniest thing I've seen in a week. The bizarre introduction! The hair! The outfits! Bono singing a guitar solo! Production values rivaled only by American Gladiators!

Fabulous. Thanks for sharing. Poor Edge. And actually, the performance is pretty damn good once you get past the sheer 80s-ness of it.

The guitar also worked during the middle of the song when he's playing the muted strings. Perfect timing .

No need to worry, he can either buy another one with Dallas' help, use the Music Rising one, or simply go back to the black Stratocaster he used back in the day for this song.

Eh, this isn't a worry, NYD was better in the eighties on the black Strat.

And Edge probably has an entire stash of Les Pauls anyway.

It wasn't a Les Paul always? Ok, well, not so scared then. However, how will he play Electric Co.?? If they even play it again that is???

NYD was on the black Strat for at least the War and UF Tours. TEC was on the Explorer until at least UF, not sure what he used on JT. I don't know why he wasn't using the Explorer for it this tour.

how come no one seems to think that the edge is capable of buying a new guitar to replace the one he auctioned off?

More to the point, why do people think Edge would auction off a guitar he can't replace? I wouldn't be surprised if he actually has multiples of the Les Paul.

he started the whole music rising thing because he remembered how it felt when a flood destroyed a lot of u2's instruments in a storage area...

i do believe they've been able to tour since said destruction. must be through magic. i wonder if david copperfield's involved. :hmm:

Of course it'll be alright. He just wrote that he'll never quite find the same sound again - and I'm primarily worried that they won't play Electric Co. again ever, no matter what guitar they use.

check the pic of the back of the guitar.... it has a no. 2 on it.... Edge also has a no. 1.... and I wouldn'tr be surprised if he has a no. 3 aswell

He used black Strat in NYD until the JT tour or Lovetown tour, and then, During Zoo TV 1992 he used Strat with black/white pickguard, but since ZooTV Zooropa leg 1993 he's been using Les Paul

Actually, I believe at Red Rocks he used the black Strat. I don't know how often he played TEC with it, but at least at that performance it was used.

Really? I've got bootleg DVDs from the Boy, October, and UF Tours where he's definitely using the Explorer, so I assumed he stuck with it on War too. I haven't watched anything from War for a while, though I did think he used the Explorer at Devore, which was only a few days before Red Rocks. Now you've made me unsure of that though!

Yup, at both Devore and Red Rocks he used the Black Strat for Electric Co..

As cool as the Explorer is, the old Blackie Strat from the 80's is definitely my favorite Edge guitar.
