I think by and large this album is extremely well-produced. A couple songs seem to end abruptly but otherwise it's got a great sound overall.

Also, after a second listen, I still think the 3 strongest songs are on the back half of the album -- #7, #9, and #10. Raised By Wolves, Sleep Like a Baby Tonight, and This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now. They sound SUPERB.

Big Props to Declan Gaffney, good work lad, hauled it over the line by the sounds of it. Good to see him get production credits.

I'm not listening to it until I go to bed tonight so I can listen with headphones in the dark with no distractions, as I do with every new U2 album.

I've only listened to this through speakers...for those who have listened through headphones or earbuds (particularly those with HQ ones), how does it sound? Overcooked at all? Too loud? Any brick walling? Clipping?

I'd think considering the quality of producers and engineers they have on this one, it sounds fine sonically. But they've always had top quality people on their records...and that didn't save Bomb, for example.

I have used my Sennheisers and I must say i'm very pleased with what i'm hearing. And I'm very anal about sound quality I might add... On NLOTH and HTDAAB I thought the y were kidding me. How is it possible for such a high profile group like U2 to deliver a sub standard product like that? Just take MOS ad an dreadfull example. This however is soooo much better. This is what you need to hear after exposing yourself to one of Springsteens later works. Good quality sound can NEVER save a poor album. But crap in crap out no matter how good the songs are.

This one sounds stellar so far. The CD will tell the truth.

Thanks, that's the kind of input I was looking for.

BTW...joined in 2008 and four posts. Um....welcome back? :)

I hope i  this album in 3 months as much as i do right now

Its a fucking breath of fresh air and it sounds like something you shout from the highest mountain top

I wont bother anyone with my track by track bullshit opinion or anything like that. But this is pretty fucking WoW stuff here. <-- pretty sure i wont be embarassed by writing this later.

Well done band & production team.

Throw the mail on the desk and sort through it later. Fuck the chores. Listen to the waves and float away into the sunrise, sunset, wherever the heart can latch onto without limits or regrets, wind take me away from here and show me a different side of peace and joy ive been hiding from all of my life.

Your last paragraph is gorgeous. GORGEOUS!!!!!

A day like today makes all the bad days worth it. This is what we live for. Love. Making a positive difference in other people's lives. And sweet surprises like your favorite band making you so, so happy with their music. Again. Still.

Speaking of having kids and U2 albums, this release is much smoother than NLOTH. The morning NLOTH leaked we almost lost our daughter to a very premature labor.

This time around.....well.....last week she started kindergarten and is doing great. :)

Folks, it's time for me to come clean and admit it. I was wrong about something on this album.

I said right before they came on that Larry would look pissed off. And he did, while they were playing. But then he smiled when Bono was bantering with Cook.

So there it is, never say I won't admit when I'm wrong. Larry looked happy. Mea Culpa. :)

(though I remain pleased and humbled to have accurately predicted an October release months ago. Most gratifying. Thank you)

:up::up: That's great to hear man. I didn't even know you have kids. Glad she's doing OK.

It's shocking how much better the 2nd half of the record is than the 1st. Anyone else feel that way? It's more the album I was expecting. Much more Broken Bellsy Danger Mousey. Much more in line with what I'm listening to now. I have to admit that I'm a little underwhelmed with Side A. So far.

Absolutely yes. Starting on my third listen and haven't changed my initial reaction that the 3 best songs are #7, #9, and #10.

i have been trying for an hour to download from iTunes and my machine won't let me for some reason...could someone share a link (in private) to download Please.
thanks a lot in advance

Another random thought: I am a little surprised that Invisible is not here, because of how well it would fit lyrically. But I also think that it definitely would not be one of the better songs on this album.

Do you think maybe it fits more thematically with Songs of Experience? It's not about their youth, it's looking back from experience. Maybe they decided it got in with the second album? I imagine it will be something like 'songs of and about youth' and 'songs of and about the lessons learnt along the way'

Songs of Innocence has been trending off and on (mostly on) since the announcement, so at least people are talking about it.

Invisible not being on the album means we get one more song than otherwise! And we can always add Invisible and Ordinary Love in manually.

Or, they could have broken out of their recent 11 songs only rule and had 12. And the album still would have just been a tad over 50 minutes long.

Actually I think I'll put Invisible at #1 on my playlist. Fits well and doesn't mess with the intended track order.

Lol, This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now sounds like u2 showing the Killers how it's done properly. Soo good.

Listening to the album a second time - sounding better than the first. Of Coarse I'm a fussy old fan who loved U2's darker side (Tomorrow, Drowning Man, The Unforgettable Fire, Bad, Exit, Bullet the Blue Sky, Acrobat, Love is Blindness, Gone, Your Blue Room, etc etc.). Having said that I think there are a few gems or semi-gems on this album. I'm really glad they included "Every Breaking Wave" although I really wish they hadn't jazzed it up so much (hoping for a more sad acoustic version on a b-side perhaps?). Certainly better than Atomic Bomb and NOTH (although there is nothing as strong as Moment of Surrender...yet). Love the fact that they're giving it away for free. Wise choice!!! Anyways, I'll give it a few more listens and get back to you.
