And *sigh* No Led Zepplin. Here is the reason why (found on Plants web site):
LED ZEPPELIN DENY USE OF FOOTAGE FOR 'LIVE AID' DVD

A published report in the U.K. claims that the upcoming Live Aid DVD package won't include any footage of Led Zeppelin. The Times Of London says that Zeppelin won't let their performance be included, with the likely reason that they're dissatisfied with how they played at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on July 13th, 1985. Live Aid and Band Aid organizer Bob Geldof said, "It is difficult...But Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have done marvelous things for Band Aid, both on the day of the concert and since."

The paper quoted Jill Sinclair, who edited all the footage from London and Philadelphia down into one 10-hour package, as saying, "Led Zeppelin have done the decent thing, because their performance on the day was not great."

Further speculation is that drummer Phil Collins, who backed Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones, might have adversely affected the music, since he was tired and jet-lagged after playing the London portion of the show at Wembley Stadium that day before flying to the U.S. on the Concorde. A Live Aid DVD "insider" added, "It is a political thing. They don't want the legend of Led Zeppelin to be diminished by one below-par performance. Collins was jet-lagged."

The four-disc Live Aid DVD package will be released on November 1st in Europe and November 10th here in North America.

If you were gonna frame the Live Aid benefit concert as an epic battle of the bands between the U.S. and the U.K., the only logical conclusion would be...we got our American asses kicked. While the folks at Wembley Stadium were treated to blistering sets by David Bowie, a reunited Who, and Queen (who, in a sign of dominance, transformed the hokey ''Radio Ga Ga'' into a rousing anthem), JFK Stadium was left with REO Speedwagon, Kenny Loggins, and a famously out-of-tune Bob Dylan. Even England's finale (''Do They Know It's Christmas?'') was more inspiring than the limp—and grammatically incorrect (''you and me''?) — ''We Are the World.''

Of course, it wasn't about competition but collaboration to fight famine in Africa, so we can forgive the weaker moments...yes, even the Thompson Twins' spectacularly bad collaboration with Madonna on ''Revolution.'' This four-disc set cleans up some of the mess, exorcising a good deal of the concert, some artists completely (so long, Rick Springfield, Power Station, and the Hooters!). Then there's the reunited Led Zeppelin, who refused to be included due to their ''substandard'' performance.

Still, there are plenty of moments both scintillating (U2's ferocious version of ''Sunday Bloody Sunday'' made them international superstars) and sexy (wardrobe malfunction alert: Mick Jagger rips off Tina Turner's skirt!) sure to stir one's nostalgic soul. And a satisfying hour-long doc shows the global influence of the event, prompting smaller charity concerts around the world. ''I just realized today is the best day of my life,'' organizer Bob Geldof says on stage. Almost 20 years later, it still holds up for us, too.

i really need to buy this, seeing as i've never seen it. (well, i've got mpegs of duran duran's and U2's performances, but that doesn't give it justice as the quality sucks.)

I bought the DVD to see U2, Queen, and INXS. I figured for 25 bucks, it was worth it for just those three. There's plenty more on there for me to peruse through, though. One of these days, I'll get around to it. It's almost too much to watch, even with the missing 6 hours or so...
