Easter Dawn
Easter Dawn
Does not come easily,
It is wrenched from the demons
Who howl and rail at their failed attempts
To convert the Almighty's Son,
Who would lure him with earthly riches,
Feed him broken illusions, Raise a molten cup
Of bitter bilous brew to intoxicate, to tempt
The poor parched lips of a gentle Lamb
And steal Him from his Father's side.
Easter Dawn
Does not come easily,
It is wrought from pain and tears,
Torn from the agony of His sacrifice,
Risen above betrayal,
Our souls bought with His blood,
With his nail gouged flesh
And immortal soul,
With His bent head and broken body,
He could but raise a finger and smite them all,
Yet He accepts such a heavy pennance
With a grace so gentle
It breaks your heart.
Easter Dawn
Does not come easily,
And yet it comes, it comes more gloriously
Than any other dawn before it,
The King is risen,
The angels cry Hallelujah
The mortals weep overcome
And the Son who lowered himself
Before all mankind
Is brought into exultant glory,
To sit at the right hand of the Father
God's miraculous promise fulfilled,
A Saviour, a Messiah, foretold,
Realized in glory, resurrected in grace.
Our truth, our life, our Christ.
