Some people have said U2 are coming to the end of their career... Others think it will go for a couple more decades.

They're only 40 now. They've got a good 20 years left in them. If the Rolling Stones can do it, why can't they?

What do you think?

If Bono lives that long, sure, why not? They don't seem to be lacking inspiration or stamina at this point.

That's a very mysterious question you have posed there Mr Phes. Along the lines of is the glass half full or half empty?
..who may say where the wind will take you..another 20 years? if wishing counts for anything, they have only just begun.

I hate to be the party pooper here but I definitely feel that they are more than halfway through with their career. I would be surprised if in 2011 they are still touring. Could they do it? Yes. Do they want to? I am not so sure. I have been paying close attention to interviews since right before the release of ATYCLB and they indicate that they do not anticipate doing this when they are old. I dont think they want to be the Rolling Stones and have the geriatric reputation. Bono will not be a rock and roll grand-daddy. I just dont see it, he is ultimately going to want to take a closer part in raising his family. This tour has made them very rich and I can only see them doing it on this scale 2 or 3 more times.

But then maybe thats because it was 1983 when I became a U2 fan and they are one of the very few bands still together from that era.

Also, it could be my way of preparing. I always anticipate the worst so I am pleased by whatever really happens.

But I dont think U2 will tour and record for another 20 years, I dont think they want to do this forever.

And I certainly wouldnt complain if they did...

Tour and record forever.
In theory they could continue to record without touring. Like the wonderful example of The Beatles provide us with - they toured for half their career (from the realease of their first single that is) and then stopped and continued to do record for the remaining half. And this was only over an 8 year period!

So if the touring stops, how much longer would the recording go for?

If it wasn't for POP and Staring At The Sun, I never would have paid any attention to U2 whatsoever.

Oooooooo new thread idea!

As Larry said their not ready yet to stop rocking, they have a lot of things they want to do. I look at it this way. They have been doing this since they were 15/16. 25 years now. They love music and are the best of friends. If anything, that is the number 1 reason while they still will be on the seen in 221! They are much more youthful, popular and relavent than the Stones were at this point in their career(1981). So it stands to reason that in 20 years, based on a couple of factors above, they will still be touring and playing music.

I have a feeling they will make a few more studio albums before their next tour.

I also foresee an "unplugged" type tour of small venues in about 5 years...

God, I pray they keep making music as along as I am alive on this planet...(just no more albums like Pop)
