Can this be right? Is Bono really THAT famous?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Number of TV appearances in 2001?

If we're talking live, I guess it's not impossible. How many acts have done 3 stadium tours in the U.S. and Europe? Of the acts that are older than U2, I think Bruce did only one or two stadium tours (though I could be wrong), and he has toured only intermittently since 1988. Perhaps the Rolling Stones did as many stadium tours, and of course they've been around longer than U2. But U2 has toured nearly incessantly for the last 23 years, has done 3 full stadium tours and countless arena tours, so I think it's possible that they are the most-seen live act in history.

Any other candidates? I can't think of any.

Doesn't surprise me though...... but I'm just wondering how they found this.

WHAT? More than any other performer....uh, maybe in the last two years, yeah. But not in all musical history, no way. That would have to be either the Beatles or Elvis or....who knows...Valentino???

More than ANY OTHER IN THE WORLD? Can that be right? Wow!

I guess its possible, I am sure U2 has performed more live shows than the Beatles and in front of way more people. Maybe even more than Elvis although Elvis was in Vegas for God knows how long before he passed away. So if you think about it, it is possible that U2 (or Bono as the radio guy said) is the most seen performer.

lol, loved the tv comment...

I remember reading somewhere (Willie's diary maybe) that one of U2's shows in Italy had the largest audience for a single headlining concert ever. They couldn't take an actual statistic so I don't know if it could be counted.

?This is when the band became Depeche Mode!? ? Steve Lillywhite plays some tracks that didn?t make it to the final cut of WTSHNN.

Elvis and the Beatles had short performing careers compared to U2.

What exactly are they counting when they quote that statistic?

Biggest audience for a single show?

Ticket sales?

Something else?

Was this the Popmart show? If so, my friend in Italy--who's Italian--was there and said it was the most horrible experience of his life. He said he had no memory of the concert, only the crushing crowds. I'd wanted him to get tickets for us for the Elevation show there last summer but he refused

and he said he would never go to an outdoor concert in Italy ever again and that we Americans are lucky to be able to see them in small arenas with reserved seats.

I HIGHLY doubt it's true...Mick jagger and the stones HAVE toured more than u2 and have prolly played in more stadiums and have been around longer...u2 will probably overtake them once they realize keith richards has really been dead since the early 90's.

The Stones performed 1629 shows through 1995, so, yes, they have U2 (and Bono) beat...so far.

According to Pimm Jal de la Parra's outstanding book "U2 Live: A Concert Documentary", U2 had played around 1000 shows through 1993. Add in maybe 80 Popmart shows and 113 Elevation shows and they're not far behind the Stones. Also, they have been playing only arena-size venues and up since 1985, which is a long time.
