the daily show played a clip of them at the Clinton Library thing, and Bono and Edge played Sunday Bloody Sunday. Bono sang the line "how long, how long must we sing this song?" and Jon Stewart then said "I was wondering the same thing".

I now hate the man. He doesn't deserve to talk about the pressing issues! Am I right folks?

Seriously though... since we are all here and obsessed with U2, we don't really think of them as the general public does. Is U2 seen as some what of a joke nowadays?

yeah, and that joke basically writes itself if you take SBS's lyrics out of context :p

U2 is the biggest and best band in the world just as The Daily Show and The West Wing are the very best in their fields.

Ahhh. Makes a lot more sense reading that now that you explained it again. For some reason, it didn't click at first...

Yes, The West Wing is my favorite all-time show. I only saw The Daily Show once or twice. I should revisit that.

Hey Mark Wouldn't it be great if Bono made a guest appearance on WW in an episode in which one of the stories dealt with Africa and DATA?! Do you have Seasons 1,2,3 on DVD? Definitely check out The Daily Show. I promise you that you will not regret it (it repeats a few times throughout the day).

It would be great seeing Bono on the WW.

The only weird thing is the parallel universe thing with the show -- I mean, the never mention the year, but the history is ours, although the stories are similar to real life... If the show does take place in the near future, it's a bit depressing, since most of our most pressing problems still exist.

Don Imus was on it once, though, so parallel universe or not, it would still work.

I don't have the DVDs yet... always need to use the money for something else.

jon stewart is a comedian on a comedy show... making fun of people is his job. no one should be that outraged by this... especially considering that i do believe stewart actually likes u2

Stewart... What a pathetic cheap shot. I never liked your show, or your political bias, may you please find better jokes, or just retire altogether.

Although the U2 comment was far more offensive than anything I've heard from his potty mouth.

 :banghead: :shame:

That was Stewart's joke?

I'm not upset at the mini-dis of U2. I'm upset at that pathetic joke! My friends used to say that joke all the time back in the 80's and 90's. Stewart needs better writers if he wants to continue being "funny".

First of all, Jon Stewart IS a fan, he's the one who introduced U2 at the Grammy's a couple of years ago and talked about how down-to-earth they were...

Second of all after showing clips of the four presidents, Jon said "and now for the main event" and showed U2 playing...(he also said this prior to Clinton's speech but regardless, the point was made).

I thought it was funny.

Does he hurt U2 by making that small insignificant (yet funny) comment? No. U2 still are the world's biggest band.

You people shouldn't be so insecure for U2.

(BTW, I loved it when he went over to crossfire and told them in the face what he thought of them.)

Jon Stewart is probably the funniest guy on TV today. Why shouldn't he make fun of U2? He makes fun of everyone else. U2 are not gods and it's not blasphemous to mock them. Have a little sense of perspective people.

Some people are taking it too serious. Like someone else said, hes a comedian and hes burns people all the time on that show. It's the best comedy talk show on TV next to Conan IMO. I thought it was funny, and judging by peoples setlist creations here, a lot agree with what he said. I think they should play the damn thing at every concert.

Anyone who knows Jon Stewart knows he is a big fan of the band, he will probably be in line to buy the album the day it comes out. He went to William and Mary college in Virginia and saw them play live in 1980 when they were on the Boy tour.

I saw the joke and thought it was hilarious. Sheesh, Jon Stewart is a big U2 fan; who cares if he takes a swipe at them once in a while? He makes fun of everyone. Lighten up, people!

I thought U2 was great yesterday, except when Bono screwed up the lyrics. I guess I'd be nervous too if I was playing for four presidents, but sheesh, c'mon now Bono!

Elvis and Sinatra are parodied and made fun of often.....it still isn't hurting their careers.
Although their deaths have greatly curtailed their concert appearances......

:reject: Sorry - the smart ass in me just couldn't resist that!!!

Jon Stewart is a U2 fan. U2 stopped taking themselves too seriously so maybe we should stop taking U2 too seriously too.

I'm curious, what did he tell the crossfire people?

Well, at one point he compared them to a part of the male anatomy.
