That quote is from Aldous Huxley (the author of Brave New World).

Anyway.

I was wondering:

1. In your opinion, which musical instrument has the most beautiful sound?

2. What instrument(s) do you play?

3. If you play any, what is the song that you just love playing?

We all know it, listening to music is great, but being able to play music is even greater.

1. I think the human voice is the most beautiful instrument next to the piano.

2. I sing, but doubt it's a joyful noise

3. I love singing PJ Harvey songs - but lately have really wanted to bone up on jazz
by listening to the new and wonderful Diana Krall album.

No alarms and no surprises, please.

I should answer my own questions...

1. I think the French Horn deserves it.

2. I play the piano, the trumpet and the guitar.

3. On piano, I love playing anything.
On the trumpet, I like playing in a Jazz band or playing classical songs like Summon the Heroes by John Williams.
On guitar, well, U2 songs of course! Right now, I love playing In God's Country and their cover of Satellite of Love.

I play the piano, and I love playing the piano. Unfortunately I don't have a piano

but when I did, I love to play anything really. Of course I studied classical, but I like to play contemporary classics. I never really got into Pop music on the piano 'cause it just sounds cheesy, unless the song was actually written with a backing piano melody. I really want to learn to play jazz on the piano- improvisational jazz, but that is an art and takes a lot of practise (which is kind of impossible w/o a piano...) *Sigh*
Music feeds my soul and when I am playing, I am at my most relaxed. It is the most incredible feeling and it must be such a rush to play music for a living.

That all being said, my favourite instrument would probably have to be the piano, and then guitar. But I think all instruments have a beautiful sound in their own way.

I forgot to answer the question, what song do I love playing? The answer would have to be... *starts laughing now* "Tonight" by Elton John. It is an incredible song written for the piano and it just goes on and on and on. I love it. It has so many different parts to it that you just don't get bored while playing.

K, now I sound like a geek lmao!

1. Oh, that's a hard one. The string section of an orchestra. A piano played by someone really talented. bagpipes playing amazing grace. a trumpet playing taps on the 4th of july. an acoustic guitar being played around a camp fire (cliche I know but so true), a pipe organ in church, a choir in church.

but truly, the most beautiful instrument, well, it's more a sound, is waves on a beach when no one is around. that is music to my ears.

2. I play guitar, I used to play the trumpet, and I doodle on the piano, but I don't really know how to play.

3. I love playing Wonderwall by OASIS, a song called "angel" that I wrote, Stay by U2, Face In The Crowd by Tom Petty, The Drugs Don't Work by the Verve, I don't actually know a lot of other bands songs. I spend most of my time writing my own stuff. I was too impatient to learn other people's songs. U2 & Oasis, and some Samples are about as far as I got. I learned quickly that it was easier to write my own songs than learn someone elses. I laughed the first time I learned that U2 was the same way because I know exactly what they were feeling when they first started out. It's a funny coincidence really...

PS: did you ever see the movie "Children of a Lesser God" I vividly remember the scene where William Hurt described music to a woman who was deaf from birth. It was beautiful

I think the cello has the most beautiful sound-narrowly beating out the guitar and violin.

Especially when played by Yo Yo Ma-wow.

At one point years ago, I played the violin-I really wish I had continued it.
