3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I came here expecting the news to be met with a peaceful easy feeling, but it seems like these lyin' eyes are in for one of those nights. I can't tell you why, but it might be time to take it to the limit.

Desperado.

could you just... not talk, for a minute?

Looks like the Eagles will be playing The Joshua Tree in full.

maybe a luxurious endgame for U2 would be to do a semi-permanent residency at Sphere, where they focus a series of shows that will showcase different albums in full, maybe do this once or twice a year. certainly JT would sell the most tickets, but imagine getting War or TUF in full.

one thing we could all look forward to would be hearing Elevation at every single show, regardless of the featured album.

CBS Mornings had a segment this morning about a student art competition for designs to be displayed on The Sphere

Nice for people who live nearby, don't think most people would travel long distances just to see the movie there. If they have to be in LV for some other reason maybe they'll go.

Directed by Morleigh and Edge, I received an email about ticket presale starting tomorrow. Bet they're pricey

I'd be fully on board with this as well as mini-tours and residencies in places like NYC, LA, Montreal, Bay Area, Chicago, Boston, etc.

I think we're all pretty clear that the next tour (or if they manage to get 2 off in 3 or so years) will be the end of U2 as a global touring behemoth. I don't think they retire until someone dies or is incapable of carrying on, but they're going to have to shift phases.

They owe me nothing, but my selfish wish is to do what you suggest with as many albums, eras and as high of a percentage of the catalog as possible. Lean into and own the living legend status.

Release new material without any care or timeline pressure.

Aaaand of course they excluded from the Sphere movie what I thought were the best songs of the evening - Acrobat and Love is Blindness. Wild Horses, Ultra Violet (UV) and Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World are also not there.

No Elevation though. Whoo-hoo.

I'm reading some really good reviews from some fans who went.
Does the band get shown somehow where they were in real life in the GA section or it's all just a normal movie on the giant screen? I'm trying to imagine how empty 100s and no GA looked...

So somehow it looks just like the band is playing in the same spot they were - that's pretty freaking awesome. Unless someone just uploaded old video and pretended it was from last night.

From what I've read the video at times almost seems "3d" and like the band is really there playing, which isn't that hard to believe when you consider that they made it feel like the room was spinning and the roof was collapsing.

Clerks' seats are still outside, tho

What I’m curious about is how the extended effects play as footage. Is it just a full recorded shot of The Fly [with the tunnel o numbers and ceiling drop] placed on screen to mimic show placement, for instance, or are they replaying that effect natively with the concert footage stitched below?

If it’s a recording captured at high enough res via Big Sky to mimic a native play, wouldn’t be surprised if Dolan is pressing Trey & Co for a Sphere Philm.

Yeah, but I'm first in line for the exit!

I was trolling quite a bit around here during the original Sphere run. Close enough to go for the weekend, but not close enough to pop in right before a show when the random GA tickets dropped.

I finally scored tickets LOL. I'm going in about a week.

If it's awesome, I want to bring my kids. I hope it's awesome.

I wonder if they will have the pre show dove and merch. I'm sad that Zoo Station is closed. I missed the PennyRoyal jewelry pieces.
