    Opening act?

Longpigs were a great band. Richard Hawley was on guitar, one of the best guitarists around these days...just saying.

    Bono on the ACM Awards

Yeah, Bono's weave looks pretty good now, like he was never going bald. Going hipster chic...maybe Pitchfork will give the new album a good review. Maybe Edge will stop wearing bedazzled jeans and studded leather motorcycle jackets and try and look like he is in his late 20's and part of The...

U2 working with pop songwriter for new album

The thing is, U2 should never have put themselves in this position, April Fool's or not. Not sure why they can't understand how to "be" - their idea of taking risks now is trying to relevant on the pop charts. They will always be relevant, just like the Boss is. Get #1 records, don't expect...

U2 working with pop songwriter for new album

Well, I am not concerned that he is producing so much. I am more worried that any involvement with his area of pop music expertise is just "off-putting" - and quite a worry. I mean, let's get real. Rock band can write pop tunes, and perform other tunes, but that is a slippery slope. Yes...

U2 working with pop songwriter for new album

It's hard to read this potential news and spin it positive. So much opportunity to make a piece of artistic music again - and to work with a person with a background such as his is really sad. Sure, maybe its only one track, or some back tracking, etc., but regardless it reeks. William Orbit...

    New Music: Ms. Director

A friend of mine is in this band, thought a U2 fan "might" like this. They are from the U.S (Washington D.C.) Feel free to listen below. They have a U2 sound in places, thought I would shop the bands latest here and give them some free PR for those seeking new music. Have a good one, Ms...

What Should the Next U2 action be?

Ahh, thanks for the info on the New Orleans studio. The LA studio where Danny did Neil Young would do nicely as well, some of the interviews for that record were great at the house. Yeah...I agree, the glasses are Bono, I just wanted him to maybe get away from the Euro trash frames and adopt a...

What Should the Next U2 action be?

Every so often I am compelled to write something on what the next steps for U2 should be. With the re-release of Achtung Baby and the documentary, etc. there have been several vague quotes discussing what U2 will do or “not” do next from Bono himself. I think we all know U2 will do...

    Grammy Nominations 12-02-09

Its curious ...wonder why U2 didn't even show up at the Grammy's ... - Did they know they weren't going to win? - Keeping a low profile after last year's performance? - Other obligations? I thought maybe Edge would go or something "incase..." but I am sure in their hearts they knew they...

    U2 360 Plane

Saw U2 plane in US at Dulles I was coming back from the XMAS Holiday yesterday here into the Wash. DC area and saw the U2 tour plane parked near the FedEx terminal. It was sitting quietly without anything around it. I know the NJ Devils pro hockey team were in town to play the Washington...

What happened to the guyliner & "Jesse"?

hahahaha, that is funny... between his creeper/gumshoes and the eyeliner it wasn't pretty. Bono wears them cowboy boots when not on stage often these days, pity he likes those gumshoes.

Edge says "New things" for 2010

U2 need to find a good opening song, period. I think Get On Your Boots is still the best No Line Song for this. ( I am not saying its the best song mind you.) IF they get a recording done, I am sure they will try and launch a new tune that is radio friendly and an opener...a la Beau. Day...

What happened to the guyliner & "Jesse"?

This tour was good, great in places...it just lacked something. The notion of Jesse and the eyeliner were early ideas that just got tossed as I think Bono and co. realized how stupid it was. I liked what was leftovers of the "could be" Jesse with the Ultraviolet performances. But if you ask...

U2's Gear back at Hanover Quay

A band as big as U2 might do a few things: - I am sure they have a US storage space set up for some gear, as they won't need to take the entire rig back to Ireland. - BUT, I am sure Edge, Larry, Adam all want the essential gear as I am sure they will rehearse after the new year in Ireland...

    "pop"

The bandwagon thought is interesting. I think Achtung was smooth as silk - and it holds up so well over time. Zooropa is just flat out interesting, has some angle to it - and some soul in a few places which smooth out the grit. Pop has really solid structures, but the mixing/recording and...

    The forthcoming album and Zooropa

hello folks - Donkeytimes is back! I love these topics. Four records over 16 years is pretty dreadful. And to think - they don't even pump out many B-sides much anymore. The b-sides they do produce seem to be weaker on the whole as well compared to the 80's output. I think the evolution...

This should have been the album after Pop

I do think there is something to be said about an idea coming rather quickly, etc. in terms of it being 'deemed' special, and getting everyone on the same page. It a powerful bond to play in a room and have that spark come. If a musician can arrive at this point, obvs. there is something drawing...

This should have been the album after Pop

In this order for me, better to worse: 1. Crazy (I echo what gvox said) 2. GYOB, potential - just something is missing. The Let me in the Sound part is solid though. 3. SuC, just needs to be re-done. A groove is there, just need to cut the white funk pronto, and new lyrics.

This should have been the album after Pop

Yes, its the GYOB, SuC and Crazy which blow the album up - but you are right, the band did create some wonderful music save the versions of the middle songs that were put on the final record. Winter would have been nice. I do enjoy Fez, wouldn't want that to be missed. I enjoy vocals in Fez -...

Songs of Ascent - Part III

U2 should go to Toronto after the tour and set up with Danny Lanois stat - they need to listen to the master, fly Eno in only for backing Vox and Organ play this time. I think they should have Elvis Costello sit in with them too for a session ha!

This should have been the album after Pop

I am in full agreement about Stand Up Snowlock - It sounds like a pro tools hack job, way to polished, shit, it might even been an Apple Garage Band job... I recall the studio video's a year ago and some of the tracking sounded much darker, and rocking. I guess you could say they had a more...

This should have been the album after Pop

I hear what you are saying GVOX. For No Line it seems like U2 had a theme brewing, cut it off in the middle for the "Beatles" pop, and then went back to the theme to finish off the record. Yes, I think they did this cause they wanted to do this, and thought it was right and interesting to...

This should have been the album after Pop

Hey all - Lots of great discussion here, and I tend to see all sides after reading through the posts. No question U2 wasn't trying to be prog' rock back in 80's and 90's. But the music certainly had a depth, a bite and a certain zeal. It had a sound, and the hits came with a delicate mix of...

This should have been the album after Pop

I think the last few posts on this thread have been pretty accurate. - To my ears, SoA (if indeed that is what it will be called and will be released) needs to contain the elements that steer U2 away from the Vertigo part 3, the creeper shoes if we can be so lucky, Walk On versions 5,6,7,8,9...
