Next Album Rumours Thread V - Your Song Ruined My Life

Whatever they write, I hope it's a departure from the tightening songcraft they worked towards on SOE. I really enjoyed SOE for its poppy tunes, but I've since longed for the layered, atmospheric, sonic playgrounds they explored with Eno and Lanois. I wouldn't mind the Edge revisiting those...

Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way appreciation thread

Apparently, it's top of the Billboard Dance Club charts. https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2018/0720/980106-its-a-beautiful-day-u2-top-billboard-dance-club-chart/

LP15 - We're due for a break from the norm

They should just put out records, retire from touring, and self-indulge with Brian Eno again.

    How are the tickets selling?

Had to sell my Omaha ticket. Just too far away to drive, and a plane ticket and the inevitable two night stay was just going to add up. Plus, I have some work to catch up on. I'll have to miss out this tour, but I have many happy memories from the past few years. Hopefully, this isn't the last...

    U2 wrote Miami

U2 ought to just spend a few months re-recording Pop. And just really overcook it. Layers upon layers of overdubs. Tons of sampling. Trashy guitar tones cranked up in the mix. Make it just unplayable live. But give it that overt commercialism feel Pop deserved. Get Gavin Friday involved. That...

Songs of Experience 37 - now with bonus orchestra

I love this album  After two months (approximately), my favorite listens have Showman, Lights of Home, and Get Out of Your Own Way. I'll probably check back in a couple of months with a different list.

Get On Your Boots Appreciation Thread

This song was great and fun live. Well, at least in Chicago where I saw it performed twice. It was a great fit for the party atmosphere that was 360. Get on your boots! Hey, hey, hey!!!!

I remember them saying they wrote about 60 songs during those Fez sessions.

I really want to know how the beginning verses would sound with Bono's lower register.

Songs of Experience 36 - Now with 20% fewer acronyms

The fact that U2 can sell 1.1M tickets in 24 hours for a tour, but only 170K albums in a week for an album shows why touring is so effective. Apparently, hardly anybody buys albums anymore.

Of course not, but I reserve my right to call out a smelly turd when I see one.

Except he mentions almost nothing about the music. He compares some of Edge's sounds to The Smithereens and REM: The best thing you can say about Songs of Experience is that at least it’s not too heavy. Sonically, the Edge is in a real power-pop mood, judging from the choppy, snappy guitars of...

Songs of Experience 36 - Now with 20% fewer acronyms

I felt naked after buying the album on iTunes. So I ordered the CD off Amazon and somehow only got it in only two days. Man, parcel services are fast these days.

    U2's Next Album?/Songs of Ascent?

If I was U2, IDK if I'd even want to tour at 60 years of age. Now I'm not saying they couldn't put on a good energetic show, but would their aging audience even be a great audience anymore? Would you want to play your heart out to a crowd where many are approaching 60 and not giving back that...

Because they think it's that good and get disappointed when a reviewer doesn't see it the way they do? Like the average difference of opinion everybody experiences every day? You know, that?

    U2's Next Album?/Songs of Ascent?

I think U2 is hanging it up. And I'm perfectly fine with it. Songs of Experience is a great album to close their career. Pat on the back for the boys.

Yeah, I got that. Thank you for explaining this to me. I see it now. What would I have done without you? Lost in ambiguity, it seems.

It's sort of ambiguous. I respect people who don't achieve their goals but tried. I don't share that respect for those who never tried. Pitchfork probably meant the other way around. "Wow you still didn't create a good album even though tried? You suck bro." Whatever.

    More SOE Reviews

Oh fuck off Pitchfork. That's a low blow score. U2 would could re-record War and you would give that a 9.0. God forbid their strongest work in over 20 years scores less than HTDAAB.
