Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

Same here! Looking forward to The National show - it's at one of my favorite NYC venues too in Forest Hill Stadium. We've got a new St. Vincent on the way too! I am so ready for her industrial era.

2023 year in review: bests, worsts, surprises, etc

I'll go with a top 30 albums with a brief description of why I liked them for the top 10, followed by other end-of-year odds-and-ends. 1. boygenius: the record – Stunningly emotional, creative album of beautiful songwriting that mixes the best qualities of Julien Baker, Pheobe Bridgers, and...

Setlist Discussion Part II - Spoilers Allowed, Enter At Your Own Risk

It wouldn’t even need that big of a change! A few tweaks would be a vast improvement. - Play “Numb” after “Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World” - Follow that with two stripped-back acoustic songs - “So Cruel” - full band to lead out of the stripped-back portion - “Acrobat,”...

    Shuttlecock XXV: Cool Hats Club

So Edge is featured on two songs on "Los Angeles," a new album by Lol Tolhurst of The Cure, Budgie of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Jacknife Lee. I've got to say, these are definitely the most musically adventurous songs he's worked on since the 90s. Not revolutionary, but some really cool...

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

Funnily enough, I’m in Phoenix right now. (Though I think it’s technically Mesa?) After Sunday’s Sphere show, I opted to see the Grand Canyon for the first time and fly out of Phoenix tomorrow morning. Found myself a bar called Boulders on Southern to spent my last vacation evening.

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

I’m in New York City. I’d be happy to meet up if you’re ever in my neck of the woods. That goes for anyone still in this forum too.

Sunday, October 8, 2023 - MSG Sphere - Las Vegas, NV

What’s everyone’s plan for the show? I just got into town and am going the U2.com fanclub meetup at The Fly bar tonight, then have tickets for the U2 cinema on Sunday at 11:15 am. Otherwise, it’s my first time in Vegas so I’ll be bumming around, seeing the sights, and all that.

The National: Sunshine on My B&Ck

I'm really liking Laugh Track too. I think it's a big improvement over First Two Pages or I Am Easy To Find. It feels looser than anything they've done in quite a long time, especially Smoke Detector. Besides the songs above, I'd add Space Invader as a standout track. And the title track is...

Sunday, October 8, 2023 - MSG Sphere - Las Vegas, NV

I’ll be going to this one! I’m flying in on Oct. 6. I’ve never met anyone from this forum in-person and it’d be cool to run into some fellow fans over the weekend.

Setlist Speculation / Hopes / Desires / Fantasies

I'd be pretty happy with that! Here's my ambitious but still semi-realistic take. 1. Zoo Station 2. The Fly 3. Even Better Than the Real Thing 4. Mysterious Ways 5. So Cruel 6. Until the End of the World 7. New Year’s Day 8. Who’s Going to Ride Your Wild Horses 9. Tryin to Throw Your Arms...

    Zooropa 30th Anniversary

This is a pretty great retrospective on Zooropa and how well it’s aged. It’s a good read. https://uproxx.com/indie/u2-zooropa-30th-anniversary-retrospective/

Fully agree! I'm really loving this album more than anything by Carly Rae since the EMOTION era. Really fantastic, fun songs.

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

How we all feeling about the new Blur album? I think it’s a great, if low-key, affair. Really solid songwriting throughout and their best work since the 90s. I think it’s both a proper follow-up to 13 but also a more straightforward, aged take on Britpop.

Setlist Speculation / Hopes / Desires / Fantasies

Numb would be great! Maybe with a visual that takes the piss out of Instagram filters or something like that? If done well, it could feel very ZooTV.

    Shuttlecock XXV: Cool Hats Club

If anyone's going to Bono at the Beacon today, I'll be the guy in a black t-shirt with a silver Joshua tree print and a blue blazer. Hope to see some of you on line or in the venue!

U2 in Vegas - Tips for booking hotels, flights and other Vegasy type things.

Sounds good to me! I booked The Linq over the weekend too. Looks like a good midway point between the Sphere and the Beatles Cirque du Soleil show, which I also want to see. I lucked out getting tickets - going to see U2 on Oct. 8 - funnily enough an exact 17 years after my first time seeing U2...

    Shuttlecock XXV: Cool Hats Club

Anyone here going to round 2 of Bono at the Beacon? I'm going to tomorrow's show - immensely looking forward to it! I wasn't able to grab tickets for the first time around. I've yet to meet any members of U2 and it feels like the Beacon will offer an easier opportunity than something like...

    Shuttlecock XXV: Cool Hats Club

So I'm going to be godfather to my best friend's son and I'm thinking of getting him a custom music box as a baptism gift engraved with his name and some meaningful lyrics. What would you all suggest are inspirational lyrics to choose? I'm leaning towards "dream out loud" but would love to hear...

Songs of Surrender - Discussion, reviews, impressions

My review of Songs of Surrender. Short version - I think it’s a very mixed-bag. Some great arrangements but many that don’t work for me. U2: Songs of Surrender - Music Review - No Ripcord

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

I listened to the debut of Brooklyn guitarist and songwriter Miss Grit this weekend and it's absolutely fantastic. Likely to be one of my favorite debuts of the year. They've cultivated a memorable vision built on unexpected mixes supernatural synths, exhilarating guitar, and poised vocals. This...

Random Music Talk CXXXI: Interference Finally Gets Its Revenge on Cobbler

Besides the great new Paramore, I really absolutely adored the new Anna B Savage album. I really liked how it expands her sound from her debut and delves into a broader range of emotions. Her songs and vocals remains so distinctive and operatic in the best way. The title track's an early...

New Album Discussion 10 - Songs of Sir, this is a Wendy's, durr

Yeah, Metallica can definitely play on the same scale as U2 in many locations. They're the closest when it comes to their age and commercial success. Metallica never really got the critical acclaim in the early 2000s that U2 received. Personally, I'm seeing Metallica playing two nights at...

So excited for this record! Two of my likely albums of the year (The National being the other) announced the same day? Fantastic. I've already got "$20" on repeat.
