Whatever happened to just playing music??

There's not much more to say. Most of you disagree with me and that's cool. I went to two shows in 2001 and don't recall it being an issue at all. They're two of the most special nights I've ever had at a concert. I went to one show in 2005 and for whatever reason I don't remember being...

    30 seconds, huh?? I wish.

Whatever happened to just playing music??

I have to call bullshit on anyone who tells me they go to a concert to be informed about social injustices in 3rd world countries.

Whatever happened to just playing music??

Like I said, if Bono wants to dedicate Sunday Bloody Sunday to whatever injustice there is going on in the world, then fine. I get that. But the relentless way they incorporate these issues from the other side of the world into the show is just not what people want from a night out at a...

Whatever happened to just playing music??

No, not new to U2, and no, not my first tour. Well aware of Bono's M.O. I guess when you see as many concerts as I do then go back to a U2 show for the first time in 4 years it just reminds you how fucking obnoxious it is that they can't just put on a normal concert. Leave that shit out of...

Whatever happened to just playing music??

Unbelievable show last night at Gillette for so many reasons.....the sound was as perfect as any concert I've ever heard, the stage was the most insane thing I've ever seen out of my millions of concerts I've been to, and the set list was near perfect. But there was one HUGE problem....THE...

    Your all time No1......

Worst U2 song ever? I'd go with Numb.

    Your personal Top 10 U2 songs ...

In no order, all live versions unless otherwise noted: Streets Walk On - (Single Piano Intro Version) Bad A Day Without Me Out Of Control I Will Follow Electric Co New Years Day Kite - (Studio) All I Want Is You

If the excellent Walk On (single version) had the guitar solo and the "Home" verse...

I don't understand that at all. This singles version of the song is easily one of the best U2 songs ever. Top 10 without a doubt.

    Edge's Best

This is too easy: Electric Co Streets

do you think that bono truly believes in his causes...

Re: Re: do you think that bono truly believes in his causes... Yes, I think that's what the thread starter is getting at. To suggest Bono doesn't believe in his causes is really an insult to him.

    Best Walk On Peformance

Because of the piano intro version of Walk On I've never been able to get with the live versions or even the album version. I honestly don't know the last time I heard the album version....the piano version is head and shoulders above all of them IMO. It's actually in my top 5 all time list...

    City of Blinding Lights

This is exactly right. It was as powerful as any U2 moment I've ever had. As great as the song is, I think it is a monumental task at this point for a newer song to make it into people's top 5 all-time. It can definitely happen, but too many of their songs have been around for 20+ years and...

Most cliche Bono line? The ones that make you groan...

Hmmm....Let me see, not liking one album in the early '90s' vs. pissing and moaning about 6 years of albums, tours, and band members. Yeah, that's the same thing.

Most cliche Bono line? The ones that make you groan...

Yeah, and half of you guys almost had a heart attack. The reaction was hilarious, you acted like I punched Jesus himself in the face or something. God forbid I hated that album. "How dare you disrespect the band like that! You threw it in the trash?! Blasphemy!!" is what I got. I hated...

Most cliche Bono line? The ones that make you groan...

There are some very good lyrics being mentioned but somehow they're cliche and cheesy?? Are they any more cliche than what any other band puts out?? The lyrics to 'Walk On' in particular are lyrics I've always considered to be some of the very best. Exactly what the hell are you looking...

    I love the Elevation tour

Wow, there are some real spoiled brats around here. How anybody could have a problem with the Elevation tour is beyond me. Bono's voice was shit? The setlists sucked? You've got to be kidding me. They were on fire this tour. I seriously don't have any idea what some of you want from this...

Visually speaking, how does the Vertigo stage rank?

I don't understand this. It seems like you're just being negative for the sake of being negative. It certainly didn't stink.

    The Chicago DVD Appreciation Thread

If you asked me this question a year ago I wouldn't have had many nice things to say about it. But I recently gave it another chance and here's what I really like about it: 1. The COBL opener - I like it a lot on the DVD but in person it was insane. 2. Vertigo - Yes, Veritigo. Just wish Bono...

    Totally agree. My sentiments exactly.

Visually speaking, how does the Vertigo stage rank?

That's a perfect way to put it and I was thinking the same thing. They knew they had something great with Elevation and they wanted to stick with the same idea. This time around they improved it and really brought it all together. The red rings on the Vertigo stage look awesome.

Pick one word to describe each band member

Wow, a lot of negative words being thrown Bono's way! Bono - Cool Edge - Brilliant Larry - Steady Adam - Boring

Visually speaking, how does the Vertigo stage rank?

That's an excellent point. The heart stage of Elevation was fresh and it brought the guys, especially Bono, closer to the fans and made average seats seem better. It was an awesome stage. But IMO Vertigo makes up for it because the bulbs were far more impressive than the screens hanging down...

Visually speaking, how does the Vertigo stage rank?

Just curious what you all think of the Vertigo tour's stage/lighting. I hated this DVD when I bought it. Watched it only once or twice because I think it falls so far short of Slane and Boston. It's been collecting dust for over a year now but for whatever reason I seem to have found a new...

All That You Cant Leave Behind should have been an acoustic album.

While a few songs might translate to acoustic nicely, the album as a whole is exactly as it should be. Kite, Elevation, or Beautiful Day on acoustic? No thanks.
