You gotta read this story at atu2.com. They've been doing extensive research on the band's early shows, and their efforts turned up a tape of an Aug 1979 Dandelion Market show! @U2

Expanded liner notes/essays from reissues - anyone have?

I'm wondering if anyone has the deluxe versions of the Boy, October, War, The Unforgettable Fire, and Achtung Baby reissues, which have the expanded liner notes and essays in the long booklets or hardcover books (from the likes of Edge, Lanois, Flanagan, etc). If so, could you take pictures of...

15 years ago today, U2 performed during the Super Bowl halftime show

Just thought with the Super Bowl this weekend and this being the 15th anniversary of the performance, today would be a good day to revisit it. I watched it a few weeks ago and it still made me emotional. Here's a Yahoo story on how things came together: How U2's masterful New Orleans...

Andy Rowen, the inspiration behind "Bad"

So, I was under the impression that the true inspiration behind "Bad" had never been revealed before, other than that it was about heroin addiction in Dublin. Then before the band's performance of the band in Pittsburgh this week, Bono introduced it as a song written for a "very special man...

Wallpapers of U2 360 DVD images?

Leading up to the release of the DVD, the pictures in the packaging were available as wallpaper-sized images. I had one in particular as my desktop wallpaper, but I need to find that image again, since my PC crashed and I'm working on a new hard drive. I'm looking specifically for a large...

Bono in 1987: "The Joshua Tree" will not be our best

I found this quote from a 1987 interview with the Orange County Register to be pretty funny, in hindsight. I personally think Achtung Baby is the band's best (which would technically make him correct in my book)... but I found it to be a very interesting quotation. Is he right? Wrong?

Help with Achtung Baby Wikipedia article

Might be a silly request, but I'm hoping to get some help on the Wikipedia article for Achtung Baby. Achtung Baby - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I've nominated it as a "Featured Article" and it is going through a review process right now. Most of the concerns are regarding sourcing (e.g...

Early version of Achtung Baby cover?

Going over some old reviews of Achtung Baby, I happened upon this image from the Austin Chronicle's review of the album: Anyone know where this came from? Did the band do an about-face on the cover after revealing it, sorta like they did with NLOTH to some degree?

Will we ever see an Achtung Baby documentary?

I have to say, the more I read about the recording sessions for Achtung Baby and where some of the material came from, the more I'd love to see a documentary about the album's creation. I'm just fascinated with all the different factors that gave birth to the album and its sound. I have to think...

    Lessons in leadership from U2

Where did "One" actually originate from? "Mysterious Ways" or "Ultraviolet"?

Where did "One" actually originate from? "Mysterious Ways" or "Ultraviolet"? In U2 by U2, it says that the song came from chord progressions that Edge was playing for the bridge of "Ultraviolet", but I've read in just as many places that the song was actually "Mysterious Ways". Does anyone have...

Mystery song played at Blackberry/Amnesty booths on tour?

At the concert today, I was walking by, not paying much attention to things, when I heard a song that caught my ear. It started out with a hard guitar riff, kind of like Foo Fighters' "DOA", and then after a few seconds, what sounded like The Edge's signature ringing guitar joined in. I was...

Bono's "laundry list" lyrics - love em? hate em?

By "laundry list" lyrics, I mean the lyrics he throws together by simpling listing things. For example: -New York: Irish, Italian, Jews, and Hispanics, religious nuts, political fanatics... -Peace on Earth: Sean and Julian, Gareth, Ann, and Breda -Seconds: USSR, DDR, London, New York, Peking...

The Mystery of the Edge's Disappearing Hairline

So, as I'm sure we all know, the Edge wears his trademark skullcap because he wants to hide his receding hairline. And he's wore a variety of hats in his time with the band. But for how long has his hairline been receding? Around 1986, 1987, the Joshua Tree era, he started wearing a cowboy hat...

    Let's play a game: "Alternate Song/Album Titles"

All you have to do is pick an album or song by the band, and then royally screw with the title. Make it an opposite, throw in some synonyms/antonyms, or make a nonsensical reference. ie: -Under a Blood Red Click Wheel -Stuck in Some Quicksand You Can't Get Out of -City of Pitch Darkness -The...
