And it is a Milan DVD!

I've only seen a youtube clip, but doesn't the beginning of COBL in Milan get screwed up? What happened there?

    Contract's End

    That's a good point. I hadn't thought about that as a motivation.

MERGED--> new album 20th november! +New Best Of on November 20th

The decade best-of's made sense and looked like a definite long range plan, so I think folks are upset that this appears to be a crass toss-off, something U2 fans are not that accustomed to. You look back on some artists' careers and you see these greatest hits packages eventually go out of...

    Low Profile?

Seems like everyone just assumes BIG RELEASE, BIG TOUR. The way this Vertigo tour has spread out and the absolute media saturation that U2 have managed for the last two releases, I could see a lower profile stop-gap type record and no tour. Somewhere in their strategy book has to be a...

Arcade Fire and U2 onstage together

I get the feeling that Arcade Fire are a bit too . . . something . . . for some of the U2 fans on the board. A lot of the Canadian bands mentioned above are probably more "indie" that the typical U2 fan deal with on a daily basis. Having said that, I highly recommend Stars. Great songs and...

    Is Edge actually playing guitar?

EBTTRT is not that tricky. He just plays the chord on the 12 string rick and uses the whammy pedal to raise the pitch an octave. It doesn't look like much, but it's all in that pedal.

    Edge's current guitar effects

The Edge never plays the Gone notes He plays the big open E chords along with Bono. Some say Larry triggers the notes. I tend to think not. Larry doesn't have much in the way of other pads besides his rather cool drum configuration.

    Edge's current guitar effects

The Gone intro might have been created with the digitech, but it sure isn't triggered by that pedal. I was just watching SNL with Green Day and it reminded me of all the U2 backing tracks. Nary an acoustic to be seen, but lots of acoustic guitar on their big hit single. It seems like nobody...

    Edge's current guitar effects

Nice article there. That is indeed illuminating. So, it seems like we can admit to this: 1.) Some things are "triggered" by Edge 2.) Some tapeloops are controlled by elves 3.) Some additional keyboard parts are played by these same elves But, boy, mention the fact that there MIGHT be a...

    Edge's current guitar effects

Someone asked about COBL and Edge's slide. Back in the release coverage, he was all jazzed about some "thingy" that allowed him to play a slide line and then quickly play chords without having to ditch the slide. I can't for the life of me figure out how this would work. I would love to...

    Edge's current guitar effects

I've been killing myself trying to find it, but I know I've seen a website from a session guy listing the Elevation tour on his gigography. He filled in guitar and keyboards. And a friend of mine was hired to haul stuff around on the Louisville Elevation show and said that there were three...

    Edge's current guitar effects

Dallas doesnt' have enough time for Edge's guitar changes, tuning, strings, etc. to pick up anything and play. There are other folks working beneath the stage. Sure, it's easy to trigger big keyboard patches or something, but tricky rhythmic guitar parts are impossibe - even if Larry was an...

    Edge's current guitar effects

While "Bad" and such is a loop, some of the guitar parts ("ABOY") are way too complex to trigger. It makes no sense and is needlessly complicated. There are definitely musicians under the stage comping along with most of the songs. Mostly it isn't that noticeable, but without it, it would be...
