New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

Enjoyed the song! If someone was a producer and making a proposal to the band in regards to making a rock album, a small Boy/ War era style EP would have been fun sidetrack alah Atomic City, Red Flag Day, Summer of Love, etc, rather than SOE or SOI. I also like that it’s not the typical Page...

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

Was listening to an interview with Ed O’Brien or Noel Gallagher or Edge or some other guitar gear interview and they commented on how surprisingly loud U2 is, alah it is The Who style loud, and part of it was because of Larry’s drumming style which is kind of funny because you wouldn’t expect it

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

It’s an acoustic U2 album! It’s better than imagined considering their past attempts at acoustic stuff and it’s not gonna overshadow the originals because of how integral the soundscapes of the originals are to the songs! However, SOS does show that they are well written songs!

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

Didn’t Larry and or Adam get scammed out of some money a while back and aren’t they the guys that were not into the U2 investment group angle Bono and Edge had back in the day? I would think Larry would still want those buckaroos! He always came off as the “it’s got to make sense dollars wise...

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

By the way, in retrospect, ATYCLB or HTDAAB were probably the last interesting Edge guitar moments!

New Album Discussion 1 - Songs of..... - Unreasonable guitar album

“I’m not sure U2 are going to turn into AC/DC exactly," Edge warns, tempering expectations fuelled by Bono recently that he might pull an Angus Young on the next album. "I’ll still be trying to find ways to use the instrument that are new and unfamiliar. But I’m absolutely convinced that the...

Acoustic isn’t their strong suit... kind of boring outside of a few numbers. They should instead opt for full on wall of sound and extra synths and other players!

U2 Still has a great album in them

They should make some new songs and start putting them in car commercials! Do a co promotion with Tesla! Free U2 album for every Tesla purchased!

Shouldn’t they be cooking up a ton of music during the pandemic? Free time in abundance I would think.

They’re too old and too distracted by investments and chillaxation to put in the effort to make a great full album... also today’s marketing also demands more time and effort from musicians. They don’t want to do that to make that cultural impact they crave b/c they believed they earned it...

U2 Still has a great album in them

Actually Bono seemed pretty inspired through Innocence

U2 Still has a great album in them

The U2 engine which is The Edge and Bono just aren’t inspired, specifically Edge and they are lazy and distracted. Probably mostly distracted. Investment group and real estate.

Ryan Tedder is fine. He’s produced hits and done a solid song or two with the band. U2 is lacking vision and are too demanding of their producers it appears.

Next Album Rumours Thread II - Songs of Ass Scent

Stuff in the vault is probably being saved for future material though one has to question if they have anything worthwhile left considering they had to borrow riffs and do callbacks. Loved POP and lot of it was carried over from Achtung so I don’t begrudge them sitting on stuff. For U2...

I retrospect, these large gaps in time between albums have probably hurt them more than helped them, no?

The other thing, is I think they’re not inspired sonically. Their best albums were sonic experiments which borrowed from trends and other innovators to fatten up their sound. These days, they’re just borrowing from themselves. Not a bad idea but it’s not helpful that there are bands in the...

Edge and Bono have their hands in different things outside of music. They are also 60 some years old. Creative juices aren’t there. Maybe they should get some TRT!

Songs of Experience - 1 Year Later

Unfortunately, b/c of the dominance of hip hop, mainstream relevance can only be attained by a rock band through a tight pop song.

    Reflecting on Year post-2000 albums

Financial success with ATYCLB and HTDAAB and Rick Rubin messed with their heads. Edge has kind of disappeared. He is probably one of the most influential guitarists today and you hear it in a lot of pop music in the past decade but he decided to become what we see in NLOTH, SOI and SOE- kind...
