    U.S. Open

I was quite peeved at how a lot of the American press said Campbell is a nobody. He's one of the great talents in golf in the last decade, his only fault has been that occasionally he gets sick of it all and lets his ranking slip. But when he puts his mind to it he can beat anyone - he'd gone...

Peter Weir Milos Forman Sergio Leone Oliver Stone (not very popular right now) Terence Malick David Lean Spike Lee Brian De Palma Ridley Scott (but not his brother Tony) Scorsese and Coppola too but that's a given.

    Oscars!

Of course, the Academy missed the boat by not awarding him a statue earlier. But all awards follow a tradition of handing out awards like best picture/actor/director as rewards for the person, regardless of whether they've passed their peak or not. Just think of Eric Clapton's sympathy Grammys...

    Who's your favorite solo artist?

People who haven't been mentioned: Paul Kelly Stevie Wonder (his good period) And only one mention of Bob Dylan? Shame!

    The Beatles

Well said Kieran on both counts. They certainly did not spring up in a vacuum - though it glosses over and romanticizes a lot of their story, the Athology documentary/book gives you a very good idea of all the influences the Beatles made use of. I think people tend to forget that while the...

    Greatest MTV Unplugged

Two that haven't been mentioned yet: Midnight Oil, Bob Dylan - both very underrated performances.

    The most depressing band...

Joy Division without question. The only thing that could possibly have beaten Joy division is an Ian Curtis solo record

What kind of indie are you all? I must know.

Britpop After I picked the kinks and the beatles there could be only one possible conclusion. Before the next girl sleeps with Damon can they say they'll only do it on the condition he gets back with Coxon?

NICKELBACK Singer Gets A Job At McDonald's, Blames Illegal Music Downloading

I think part of the effect is lost because Nickelback is nowhere near a struggling band - one of few to experience really strong sales in that period. Since 2001 they've earned enough to retire very comfortably. Kroeger is also a master businessman.

    Jet?

haha@the condoms They're Australia's version of Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, The Black Crowes et al, a classicist band with little artistic merit but the ability to write a cool singalong chorus.

I want London to win it. The UK is one country that NEEDS an injection into its sport (metaphorically :D).

    Australian Federal Budget

Aye Kieran. I think the main thing the country needs right now is a change in government, if only because it will mean a change in attitude from the smarmy consumerism of the present leadership. Latham's budget response didn't quite go as far as it should've and could've, but whenever he...

    Franz Ferdinand

Indeed yertle, I like it but the new ones by the Beta Band, the Icarus Line and Patti Smith are getting more of a run in my player...right now I'm listening to Revolver though - reading a Beatles book you see.

    Franz Ferdinand

My review... don't give star ratings :D Franz Ferdinand Sony The pre-release buzz from this Scottish (skittish?) Art school quartet blew like a mighty wind through the music press at the dawn of 2004. It was a canny decision to say the least to release the album at that time, since the utter...
